Of course I've lost. I think if you don't lose, you're playing on way too easy of a level. Now, sometimes you have to really jack up the difficulty/variant to lose, but I would find the game no fun if there wasn't at least a chance of losing.
To those who give up losing games...I won't tell you how to have fun, but I will tell you that playing out games I thought were lost causes taught me FAR more than any easy win. Coming back from great odds, struggling...you learn a LOT that way. I would strongly suggest to anyone who wants to get better to play out "hopeless situations" to the bitter end. You might be surprised with what you can do! In
LotR10 Scouting Sid, we were almost an age behind and at the bottom of a dogpile. We did NOT quit and ended up winning. The only reason we knew to not quit and to keep trying was that we'd all been in dire situations before and knew that there was a chance of finding a way out. We'd been there and tried it before.
No, you won't always succeed. If/when you do, though, it's a great feeling. Even when you can't pull it out, you can learn a TON about why/how/what went wrong and how to hopefully prevent that situation from occurring the next time.
A quit is an ignominious loss with almost no redeeming value, IMO. A played-out, wiped-from-the-face-of-the-earth loss has value.
My soapbox (err...one of them at least!
