Have you got a 'Panic Room'?

What are the legal requirements for storing firearms in the US?

In NZ, the weapons must be locked away in an approved strong-box. Where applicable, the bolt must be removed and locked away separately, and the ammunition must be locked away in a different location as well.

Having a loaded firearm (or for that matter an unloaded one) under your bed is illegal.

That is under state and sometime local jurisdiction, not federal and varies gratly from place to place. Commonly, civil law (tort suit risk) and insurance policy requirements bear harder on the subject than crimianl or regulatory law.

Simon, I know of cases of children visiting a home for only minutes and and finding a hidden weapon. They are hyperactive little snoops into everything. A simple locked cabinet slowed me down only around 15 minutes from to my father hunting weapons.

That may be the case, Lefty, but I can categorically say that no children will ever visit my house. Ever. It would violate my court order ;)
No one ever visits for that matter. As a permanently single evil fascist, I would say it would be a safe bet to put down $20 million against a child ever going in my room.

"'old on a minute - I've 'ad an idea!"

Lefty, you sort us out with some Minis, we'll torture knowltok until he tells us where Simon lives, andycapp can practice with the bombs and if we wait until Adelaide are playing at home and there's a huge traffic jam then we'll be able to break in and plant a kid in Simon's house.
Only bags I'm not Noel Coward. ;)

Gosh, "The Italian Job" all over again:D
What a great film.
But it would not work, for the following reasons:
1.) None of you are Michael Caine
2.)Knowltok has no knowledge of where I reside
3.)Even when Adelaide are playing at home, there are no traffic jams near my area. Football Park is many klicks away. (Thank God for that)
4.) Breaking in would not be advisable for your health, with an entire Waffen SS division defending the area. :D

And you would make a simply maaahvelous Noel Coward, dukey, my old girl.

I dont know of anyone who has a painc room. I dont think anyone has a panic room. I know that many people have bomb shelters or fallout shelters, but none of these things could prevent someone who is breaking into your home form coming into the shelter. I just think they had to come up with an idea for a movie and though that an idea of panic room would be great. Personally it sounds really really stupid to me. Most theifs try and break into your home when no one is there.

andycapp can practice with the bombs

The Mighty Bombers are zeroing in on Adelaide as we speak, however Darkshade has been spared because he is a Cats supporter and thus qualifies as a honorary Victorian ( :p ).

On topic, I gather from the responses so far that a "panic room" is a hollywood creation. Has anyone else heard of the movie "The Panic Room"?

Thank you for clearing that up andy, much obliged.:D
I do hope your blokes wipe the bloody floor with those worthless Crows, by at least 29 goals, after letting down the civilized world against Brisbane last Sat'day.
Anyway, here is one for you: G. Ablett Jnr for Norwich Rising Star?:D

And yes, I have heard of the movie, and seen trailers for it. Typical Hollywood tripe...

I have a bomb shelter underneath my house. It's built to stand even if the house will fall so I guess it can be called reinforced. It has a steel door and a 20cm concrete wall serroundede by solid rock (Timrat is just one big rock with some dirt on it and this shelter is built inside the rock). I also spend a lot of time there - it's my drums room. Imagine the power of a low tamtam in a 2.2X3X6m room. It's so strong I can't play with other people there because you don't hear anything but the drums...

Care to switch countries for a few years? You'll see just to what extent it is true.

Well about that weapons thing. I dont think its that much of a problem. Because if a burgler wants to break into a house with the intent that if he sees you he's gunna beat you he will take a weapon in with him. The only burglers that pose real threats to ppl are home invaders, most will run if they see you.

And i was looking at the magazine article picture posted. Why on earth would ppl want panic rooms in their house? I mean home invaders are the only real threat to your life. So if they actually do wanna kill you they should just set fire around the panic room and leave, if the fire doesn't kill you getting out sure will be a b*#ch as you'll have all the wood to make a house around you. Also i haven't seen that movie and i wont (oooo look their running around a house for 2 hours oh wait about 1.5 hours cuz they do need a basic storyline) but from the trailer it looks like they broke into the panic room.

Well, for the average North American, I imagine there is no use whatsoever to having a panic room. An Israeli, on the other hand, would find a bullet-proof safe room to be very practical.

It sounds like the major demand for safe rooms in North America is from rich people. I can see that after someone is worth more than $50 million they have to seriously consider the possiblilty of kidnapping, and so having a hidden safe room might be helpful.

if ppl are worth $50 million dollars usualy they have a small army on hand. meaning that they have a lot of security, as well as guards, and have one of those fancy "Tell the cops when the alarm goes off" alarm systems. But i there is not realy any reson why anyone in NA should have one, I could see why ppl in the middle east would like them, but even then its not realy to save yourself when an attack is directed towards you. Also can many Israeli ppl aford them? excuse my ignorance, but what kind of a country is Israel? are the ppl pretty well off like in america, aside from the internal affairs, And lets not make this thread jack b/c there are already a few threads for the middle east topic. But is it realy feasable?

:goodjob: Sparrowhawk, thanks for the info from Time magazine. It amazes me that anyone in a 'Western' nation would waste their money on an idea like a panic room - perhaps it just shows how afraid some people are.

However, a panic room in certain middle-eastern nations might be a very good investment. ;)
