Partly been busy, but mostly just haven't felt like it was right. Somehow playing at world domination has had very little appeal to me since the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington. Anyone else been feeling this way?

I have overrun worlds and crushed civilizations since then, mostly on Chiron.

One would expect nothing less than such complete insensitivity from such an old curmudgeon as yourself, Lefty ;)

Actually, the new GOTM looks very interesting. I may download it tonight and start a new game.

For a few days after what happened, I couldn't even enjoy music!!! Not a revolution or anything, just an undeniable feeling of sadness and loss. And a choking sympathy for those who would never hear music again.

I played my first game of Civ this past weekend, and didn't enjoy it as much as I normally do. I actually became a bit bored with it and was relieved when the host said he wanted to save and quit.

I think it a guilt thing, but I also believe that a shock this large takes time to get over, no matter how far away you might be.

It may be guilt, but I think it's mostly a perspective thing. To see such devestation and think of the tens of thousands of lives directly impacted by the losses, to think about those who lost their lives and those who have lost loved ones, makes things like computer games and listening to music appear to be the silly little inconsequential nothings they really are in the grand scheme of life. That doesn't make them bad, and we'll all get back to doing them and even enjoying them in our own time, but a part of us will forever realize how insignificant they are compared to what has happened and what could happen even to us.

I agree with your second post Leo... That was the word I was looking for...

A woman was saying on the radio the other day about how meaningless everything seems...

I actually think everything is more precious now than ever. Even our games, but they are not as important as they once were.

Live each day like it's your last and don't take anything for granted. Good advice, albeit a lot easier to SAY than DO... I've missed out on some good times because of this. For the past few years, I have tryed to remind myself (when I remember to) that life is short, gotta live it. Like the Garth Brooks song, (even though I dislike most country) "Life is not tried it's just merely survived when you're standing outside the fire."

Personally, I have played Civ, and I find myself disliking certain civs more than before, or destroying certain civs quickly. No, I am not anti-anybody. But, it is something that is there still. I don't feel bad about it, nothing to feel bad about. I am human. People can feel an "aversion" per se, even when they know the object of their aversion is not to blame for anything. I dunno...

As i told b4,i played civ1,civ2(from april 99 to nov 99),CTP from nov 99 to april 01(Oct 00-april01 online),i bought CTP2 in Dec00 but i didn't play more than 3 h(too ****ty game).I got used to the combat system in CTP n i now find the one in civ 2 too repulsive.
As i like only civ games,i haven't played any game since April.
It's gonna make 6 months!6 months waiting for civ 3:eek:

But went back into action last week.
I think getting ones mind on something else for awhile is a good thing. Dwelling on the negative and obsessing about it is a good way to cause depression.

Thats what the terrorists wanted. To make us sad. Make us scared. Destroy our happiness.......

Well don't let them. Civ is part of my joy in life and I bet it is part of yours too. Don't let them take civ or anything else fun in your life away from you.

I felt the same, leo, at first.

But after over a week of bad news and sadness, I needed an escape, and the game I played against Cornmaster and Fisheads helped alot with this.

I also was missing my regular games with Boann and Slowwhand, as well as several other on-line players, not for the game, but for their friendship while playing the game.

In all games I have been in, the spirt of co-operation seems to be the order of the day, nobody cares much for war, and I'm glad of that.

Now, three weeks later, we (my wife and I) feel a semblance of normalecy, but not yet normal. :(

I have been without any Civ since August, when I left for college. I picked up my college laptop once I got here, and didn't bring any software with me. It was intentional, because I was afraid of the distraction during my beginning months at college, knowing how addictive Civ can be. If I had access to Civ, I probably would have played Civ the day of the attacks to try and take my mind off the constant assault of news updates and tragic stories. Unfortunately I didn't have it, and spent most of my time in front of the TV watching the news, which was rather depressing. Now, hearing all the news about the upcoming Civ 3, and not even able to play Civ 2, I have just about chewed my nails back to my elbows.

Actually since then I been playing more SimCity and Rainbow 6 ;)

if so please find a way to place him in his rightfull spot as my Avatar!

started GOTM9 last night and really enjoyed it (kicking butt so far :) ). I"ve been occupying myself since the 11th, just with other things. Been doing a lot of racing on the computer rather than playing Civ. No I haven't been obsessing over the news, though it certainly has been occupying my mind and some of my time. Life is going on, and activities at least are normal, but none of us will ever quite be the same again. If we approach it the right way, this change can actually be a positive thing. I know I"m a little more patient with my daughter these days, and give her just a little bit more of my time. I'm sure you all have similar stories.

Wishing you peace in the midst of turmoil, Leowind
