Own And Played Every Civ From 3 To 6

Gotta get those artists programming the game! That'll improve the AI! :mischief:
At this point they'll probably do it better 😭 are they hiring sweatshop workers for the AI or what 😭

Of the four mainline Civ games with 3D leaders, three games had leaders that look anything but serious. You can call the style exaggerated, cartoonish, funny, kitschy or whatever, but it was definitely not serious. Civ5 was the exception with its leaders looking realistic and mostly having subdued animations. From what we've seen so far of Civ7, I definitely don't think it's less serious looking than previous games, it's probably a bit more realistic/serious than Civ6.

And Civ2, which didn't have 3D art yet, embraced the silliness so much it probably outsillies any later game.

Man, even though the graphical fidelity is getting better, I really do prefer the subdued feeling of Civ5 leaders. Not necessarily about realism but just about how they seem like people and not caricatures.
High hopes for them to really improve leader artwork and scale down exaggerated animations for Civ7

I find Civ5's leaders wooden and robotic (though I do miss the beautiful environments). However, with Civ7 I really do feel like they need to pick either realistic models or lively animations; they look very strange together.

LOL the definition of a cut scene!
Mate, a cutscene is something that takes up most or all of the screen and blocks further player input while they watch it. The advisors didn't do that. They are no more a cutscene than leader animations. You really, really, don't need to keep digging.

You're mistake is assuming that somebody was hired to work in the AI lol

You think the size of the screen in a cut scene is very important. I respectfully disagree. I believe a cut scene is a cut scene regardless of the size of the screen.

Moar please.

Just read the end of the sentence you quoted... (or the start of the linked Wikipedia article)

I made it bigger for you, so you don't miss it on your third attempt.

Not to mention that "Silliness in a game makes it for children, unless that silliness is in a cutscene" is a preposterous argument to begin with.

I wish they had kept the direction leader animations and map were taking in Civ V (as in, more open world left deep into the late game, no sprawl) -- but there's also nothing wrong with more bright colors.

My only gripe with the 7 graphics is the enemy leaders not facing the player and their subpar look. The sprawl on the map is also not great but that's a result of keeping districts -- oh well. Unit animations are a neat little accoutrement and since they are bigger on the map relative to other games it makes sense -- they even have those sorts of things in the more "mature" GSGs

I don't really care about cut scenes, regardless of the size (stop being so obsessed about the size! LOL). My problem with what I have seen in the Civ VII previews is the silly cartoon like animations of the units in the game.

that a silly obsession you have here, when everyone showed you it was not really better in the previous games.

Hmm... Wooden and robotic but for the time they were still pretty good. I think of them as "reserved" which works really well with their programming.
Like they always look like they're plotting something, so it doesn't feel weird when they surprise war. It's like wow, how slimy of you...

I do agree with you, I can't quite put it. Civ6's art style matches the animations. Civ7's leaders have like Civ5.5 art style with Humankind animations. It's a little worse of all worlds I can't lie.

Nope! LOL you missed the part where I explained the difference between a cut scene and an actual part of the game. The difference is obvious, sorry you can't understand it.

civ is SRS BSNS!

Yeah OP this argument really isn't working. The Civilization series has never been overly serious, Civ 5 was the exception to that rule.

If you prefer the grounded art style of 5 (many do including myself) just say as much but framing Civilization or past art styles as being a kid's game because the series trend toward exaggerated caricature is silly.

I wasn't thinking about that, but leaders are actual part of the game, a very fundamental one for some players.

I have played all the incarnations of Civilization. Graphics have generally improved every iteration, although not always to some people's desired tastes. Too bad for them, the game system is still great.
I agree, the graphics seem really well advanced in civ 7, here.

5 was an unmitigated disaster that was only rescued by the community through modders dragging it up to the half decent level.

I found the graphics sterile and boring. The squeaky wheel from 5 fans got some grease in 7 with some compromise on the graphics and a return of some mechanics like happiness and social policies.

Leaders are even more important in 7 now, too.
