Civ 4 should have helicopters that can move wounded troops back to cities

and heal them. they would have an operational range so you couldnt pick up

troops across across the map. this is a fairly realistic idea, think about

vietnam. also there should be more helicopters in general like hueys and

apaches.

While I don't want to see them get bogged down by putting dozens of variants of the same unit in the epic game (in other words, if there are going to be a bunch of distinct helicopter units, they'd better all have their own purpose to convince me to take the trouble of building this one over that one), I do think it would be a good idea to allow for this ability. I could see making a helicopter unit that could do it.

Or they could simply add a new 'Medevac' command to a unit's command list after a certain tech in the modern era is reached whereby you could automatically transport a wounded unit to your nearest city, provided that city was within range. It could function like the 'Airlift' command, only it would require you be on the field instead of in a city, and it would be restricted to damaged units.

Would there be a certain type of chopper that medi-vac troops? Or can any chopper medi-vac troops?

only certain helicopters can medi-vac troops, an apache should not be able to do this but "utility" helicopter like a huey could. maybe there should be a specific helicopter that can only medivac, but can on any type of terrain.

It's a good idea, but perhaps it should be like Loaf Warden says, more of a new command 'evac' or something for the already existing helicopter unit.

In Civ3 there was a serius lack of helicopters. The existing unit doesn't have the ability to load units from anywhere as a choper sould do (this has to do with the idea of loading wounded units) not to mention that before C3C helicopters could trasport only one unit!Incredible, plus there aren't any combat helicopters. These units sould be as any other unit with an indipendent movement and certainly they souldn't need a city base for execute their operations.

a new unit isn t need just the ability of the helicopter to load trops within it operational range not only loading em in it city.
thats is a mustbe in civ 4!!!!!

I've always thought that units should be able to heal in any kind transport. Its frustrating to put units into a boat then 5turns later they haven't even gone up one point, when if they'd been on land they would have.

or do u think a journey at a overloaded trooptransport is healthy for war-wounded
here it would make sense to have lazeretships, which are healing units, only infantry!

Great idea. I think that, as Last Conformist said, they should be able to pick up or drop off any unit within range. Once they are behind friendly lines they can heal normally.

:goodjob:

A great way to spice up modern warfare. Just click on the button, and you see a cool animation of a chopper charging in to pick up your guys. I love it!

I would rather see a command as opposed to a new unit. However, this should only be for foot soilders.

I agree. Only for foot units and I'd prefer a command instead of a new unit. I personally find helicopters rather useless this way.

I didn't say any unit. I think mechanized units should remain unable to be transported by 'copters, partly for realism, partly for game balance. Gives foot units a bit more of a use in the late game.

I figured you were not referring to mechanized units, but I just wanted to clarify.

Why not just kepp the helio we got now and just add this ability, and add a Apache
