I've recently got a new computer, I installed civ 4 - doesn't seem to be any problems. But when I installed BTS and tried to load it it kept coming up with loads of things like,

Failed to load global defines.

and it won't load properly. Does anyone know how to sort this out? I have windows vista btw. Also, I've already tried un/reinstalling bts. It also
strangely refused to add it to my programs list, it should get an icon in the firaxis-civ4 folder there, but didn't (don't know if either of these things are related). Thanks in advance for any help.

The computer i was installing it on insn't connected to the internet which makes d/ling patches awkward and timeconsuming. Are there any other possibilities.

Hmmm, Im pretty sure I didn't have the patch before...
Back in the Civ3 days I had read that you must patch vannila games before installing expansion packs. I've always followed that advice but don't know for certain if its always true.

In this case, the Civ4 1.74 patch was released around the time of the BTS patch. Prior to the latest Civ4 patch everything was cool with the DirectX versions. But by the time the latest Civ4 patch was released, there was a new version for DirectX which BTS requires. So it may be that you need to update your DirectX driver before installing BTS??? Im just quessing here.

ok thanks for the help everyone. I'll install civ on my interent comp, d/l the patch, and copy all the civ4 files across to my PC on a backup drive. Hopefully it will work then.

Ok, I finally got BTS working on my computer but now FFH wont work.

I have a computer in my room and a computer in my lounge. I'm not allowed to play on the PC in the lounge and I don't have internet on the one in my room so what I've always done is to d/l FFH and FFH patches from my lounge PC and copy it across to my Room PC with a USB drive. Recently I got a new computer in my room, which has windows vista. So I installed Civ4 and BTS and copied FFH2.30g to my PC. But whenever I try to load FFH either through BTS or using the shortcut on my desktop it crashes or something. Windows vista is strange and the PC doesn't actually crash but the screen sorta freezes and I get a little blegggggh sound saying the damn thing doesn't like it for some reason. So I just have to press Ctrl-Alt-delete and close it with task manager.

Please help me! I don't even like normal civ!

All that info above was just in case the problem is related to any of that.

I get the same error. I was told turning off videos helps but nope. I reinstalled the whole thing from scratch using compatability mode and now i'm getting the no cd error.

I got this all working here is what I did.

Install Civ 4 -> Warlords -> BTS. For each installation cancel autorun go to control panel and run the install an old program. For settings check the bottom ones (don't check the 640x480 or the other top one). Tell it to installf rom cd rom

when told to do so install as normal. When fisnished say it worked and close it out.

Repeat this with the other cd's.

When done install patch 3.13

Install the unofficial 3.13

Install FFH

Install FFH patch J

Run the game -- it will automatically enter your compatibility mode.

If the game says no cd go to megagames.com and download the no cd crack.

I now have civ running with 16 AA and it looks very nice.

Oh one last thing I suggest checking no movies in the options.
