Help! Civ3 Newbie!

Hi there

I am running Civ 3 Gold on Win98

1. Can anyone tell me the difference between Civ3, PTW, Conquest & Gold?
2. There is a cheat about naming a leader leemur. How do you name a leader?
3. I am running v1.27 are there any patches I should be installing?

Civ 3 is the base game, PTW is a "expansion" that adds multiplayer. Conquest is a expension that includes most everything in PTW plus some other stuff. Gold is civ 3 plus PTW but not conquest, might include a paper manual and hot key guide that other versions of civ3 wouldn't. Cheapest route usually is to buy civ 3 regular then conquest.

Renaming? I believe its ctrl N.

Civ3 is normal, PTW adds civs units and other stuff, Conquests adds PTW stuff and new civs units etc.

2 ways to rename, ctrl-p and have a blue square on "show advaced unit options, and there should be a rename button on the bottom, or ctrl-n

SDG, don't waste you time with Vanilla (basic Civ3) and PTW, go straight to conquests!

For Conquests, I believe the latest patch is 1.22.

if you have advanced unit options on in PTW, you can. Not sure about Vanilla

You can rename your leader in vanilla civ... just click the leader, I think.

you can name the leader in all versions, just click on the box with the leader's name
