When playing the Earth18civs scenario, the German civ starts with a scout, while the French starts with a warrior. If the French are lucky, their warrior starts very close to Berlin, and can take it in 4-5 turns. Most of the times, the Germans can not build a warrior to defend against the French warrior, and the scout have low odds of winning, even inside the city.

What can the Germans do to live for more than 5 turns? Am I missing something?

Btw, I imagine that the mongols could have similar problems, also starting with a scout, next to China, with a warrior...

Cheers!

Well, if you're playing single player, the AI will not attack you until quite a ways into the game, even if it could easily take your city.

Multiplayer would be another matter, though.

*nod*, if you are playing multiplayer, you should just mod up the game and give everyone a single strength 3 or 4 no-attack unit.

Gets rid of that early game warrior rush: having a scout is supposed to be an advantage, not crippling.

The mongols have the same problem with China in this scenario. I think OneCrazyCanadian has a custom variant that reduces these problems.

I echo Heffling's recommendation that you try playing OCC's Earth map, which resolves the early rush problems for Germany and Mongolia.

If you stick with Earth 18 Civs, your best bet as Germany or Mongolia is to work a tile with maximum hammers so you can get a Warrior as soon as possible. Admittedly, even this strategy sometimes leaves you staring at city ruins on turn 4 or 5.

Thanks for the replies. I mostly play Earth18civs multiplayer with my friends, so I'll just make a "house rule" not to attack during the first 5 turns. That should give the Germans and Mongols time enough to build a warrior...

Germany has copper within their capital's radius. Axe-rush Europe before the first Latin word ever gets uttered.
