Help me with carthrage in ROR plz

K, thx a bunch Global.

Taking Sicily isn't that hard, it's defending it. The romans send evrything they got at my islands(pretty weird). But I've devised a devious plan. What if the romans can't land on the island? What if i put units on every square possible that they could land? Is that doable? Cause For the Romans, m y islands are everything to them.

With all the Suggestions, i've devised a plan. I'll try to make a Swordman as fast possible to make an army to take sicily(eventually rome). I'll use my island tactic to defend(if it works). During that time, i'll make war with egypt to gain a bit of territory and points(there weak as hell, so why not).

I'd like to thank all of you(specially trooper, who's so devoted to helping), you're tips are really precious to me. Although i find less time to play ROR(with euro 2004 on, and my exam period i'm in), i'll play little by little, and try to get a victory. :king:

I think, the key is not to build settlers in the beginning. Try to keep rome off of the islands and get them all...after that build a larger military to conquer south italy but watch your spanish colonies (only defend them). Try to get allies!

I played as Rome and took those Islands early on. Pain in the ass to hold on to them as every turn it seemed like Carth. sent a galley with troops to attck. :ack: After a while the actually took one. got it back a turn later. Still...

Yup...i'm seriuosly considering ressarting nd jsut abandoning the damn islands, build a military and make a huge explosion at the southern penisula. My only worry is that as soon as i land, they'll send just about everything at my just landed units, and that they'll all die. Remember, i'm at monarch. If i remeber correctly, AI receives a production bonus.

I admit carthrage is a whole lotta fun. North africa is still ripe to colonise, and the startin point in spain makes an ez expection(that's later in gane, when they have grananries and have high pop).

In response to Marine. Rome sends a force of like 3 legions every 2 turns(not jsut one Island, one turn thye laned 3 in sicily, the next another 3 at corsia, and 5 i belive at the alst island, and this like turn 20-25). They always win agast my num mercs...so defending gets a whole complicated again.

At least I,ve learned toi cope with it much better now(learned to make much larger defense, and ¸actually keep my islands for more than 10 turns). Coundn't have done it without ya!

I was actually expecting a much easier time, in many posts they said that carthrage was so ez, which means i either i suck(who knows) or they damn good. Just out of curiosity, what do ya think of the scenario(afterwards you can leave this thread alone, i think we're all tired a bit of playing and trying all sots of strategies).

You can lose the other islands -- they don't matter so much [though I did manage to hold them by mass-attacking all Roman Galleys] as Sicily. You WANT. . .no, you NEED Sicily. Sicily is a launchpad with which to launch assaults on the Italian Peninsula. Taking out cities in Italy will wreak havoc on Rome's production capacity. Also, if you lose Sicily, Rome is a hop, skip, and a jump away from Carthago, YOUR most productive city and capital. Keeping Sicily is good for offense AND defense. Hold Sicily at all costs, build up a giant navy to attack Roman Galleys with, and then drop a lot of units -- including Catapults and, later, Fire Catapults which are ESSENTIAL to defeating high-level Legionaries basically all high-defense units -- onto the southern area of the peninsula. It will do nothing for you to stab at the arms and legs of Rome; aim for its heart.

Ah...interesting. Fine, the other islands will go, but i'll try to get sicily all to my self. I,ll make galleys, and attack em, but i loose 3 out 4 times. Well, here goes. Thx.

My current game is going GREAT! I've taken 2 towns of the roman peninsula, my islands are still aliove(thanks to my navy). I tried to make an alliance with celts, but i can't find the option in the menu. Werrdly enough, the romans we're capable of making an alliance with them. I,m happy they did though, cause if it weren't for that, i wouldN,t have had my 2nd army. I,m at peaace with celts, and sending my 2nd army to the penisula. Oh egyps mad an alliance with Rome, so I'll kill em, but 9i gotta do it quick, they declared war with persia. Hpw do i tale a screenshot, i wanna show ya my game.

After you meet the barbarian civs you need to establish an embassy.

I,d love to Xerses...but how do i get a screenshot???

When you wan't a screenshot, press the printscreen button at the top of your keyboard.
Then press the windows button at the bottom of your keyboard.
Open up "Microsoft paint" or something like that.
Open a new document, and paste the picture.

Hmmm...i dunno if i posted my image correctly...i guess i'll try(THE example they showed was to post an internet image, not a document). It might not work. The old way was simpler. Anyway Egypt and rome are done. But currently i dunno what to do.

What would in general be the better attack route?

Over the Alps along the coast through Marseilles?

OR

Southern Italy or perhaps Rome directly by seaborne assault?

The advice I was given was to go the southern rode. The alps can be long(i tried to do both ways...the southjern peninsula way is much quicker, and is effective). All you need is one city, and you can use it's port to disembark all your units. I did it...i quickl took 3 cities in like 7 turns.

They key to defeating Rome is to keep all of the barbarian civs that are close to ROME (such a s Celts, Vikings, and to a lesser extent Scythia) to not fight each other, but to gang bang Rome (Celts are the most useful.) Use these civs to draw out some of Romes army and then invade from the sea, taking sicily, and holding onto it for dear LIFE!

Well don't worry about rome...theyre dead.

Yup...i only need 2 percent of land masse to win(which is surprisly hard to get). I conquered greece, but they still have the middle east hioldigns. I was gonna finsh them off, butr the persians capured byzantium, and i saw there army. Greece is done. With all that's left, i'll colonise aund europe, and preparing war agasit the goths.

I,m on the edge of victory, i ca't believe it! I have only 30 tunrs to win though..so i gotta move.

built some cities - they will probably give you one-two percent more. ideally outside your culture borders of course.

I started playing RoR as carthage after i read this post :D

And I must say it is quite challenging, but it can be done if the game is played right.

I managed to get sisily (i think thats how u spell it ) and I am moving into the bottom of the Roman peninsula.

Rome IS almost conquered in the south, as I managed to take Roma and all the cities below it. But Rome had one big final army, and they are marching on my cities in Spain, so I am sending the rest of my army towards them and am going to meet them in battle. I cant depend on my Mercs to hold that army.

I have to pay close attention to Persia...they are getting better, as they defeated Egypt before me  . I DO have Celts at war with Rome, I am trying to draw of out some of Romes legions.

Hope I can defeat Rome soon, after that, I am marching in Macedonia.

Well...if you'rer goping after macedonia, my advice is do get byzantium quick, that qay you have a direct rpoute to middle east. The persaisn took bfore me...and there sending like 35 units at them trough that city(they did a war afgasit scythia, and won).

im busy as Carthage now.conquered Rome got northern spain Took Israel and egypt and large parts of Greece.
But that Persian stack of doom
$i am in turn 60 and i got all techs and still need military training and siege craft!!!!
