Help please - incorrect admin privilege popup

"Please log in with administrator privileges and try again."

FIXED. See link posted by AuldIan, below.

I have only one account - and it does have administrator privileges.
I then created a second account with Admin priv. and tried to start Civ IV from there with no luck.

Any ideas? I am no longer up to speed on the inner workings of computers so type slowly please. This reminds me of the early 80's when every time a new game came out I had to learn more about computer optimization to get the game to play. (config.sys and some.bat file...and shadow ram can't neglect that!)

Thanks for your help - I can't wait to play this game.

(Computer should meet specs. 2.4GHZ w/256RAM and 12MB memory left after installation. I have installed the 1.52 patch.)

Edit: I run McAfee Virusscan and have their Firewall too...could this be a potential culprit?

Hmm, you have only 256 MB RAM? That is the bare minumum for WinXp.

Also, you said you have 12MB 'MEMORY' left after install. I assume you mean hard disk space. That means your hard drive is full.

I'll look at adding RAM but I don't think that's the culprit here?

Well, we started off on the wrong foot, are you getting this message on install or at some other time? Is it before any files get copied. look in you Program Files directory and see if Firaxis is in there. If it isn't, try creating a new file or folder under Program Files and see if the computer lets you.

Also, choose not to install Xfire, if you get that far.

Another thing, are you running Winxp???

System details: Dell DIM 2350
2.4GHz, 256MB RAM, WinXP Home Edition 2002, Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller/ (OK not sure how to check my video card details i.e. how much memory it has.) 12.7 GigaByte free space (after install and patch)

Disabling the virus scan and firewall didn't help.

Yes, the program folder is created under Firaxis Games/ Sid Miers Civilization 4/ all items total 14.5 MB

After dinner I will try the items suggested for the football manager troubleshooting to see if I have any luck there.

Delete that directory before you try reinstalling.
The contents of my folder is 1.47 GIGABYTES.

"12.7 GigaByte free space (after install and patch)"

This statement bothered me.... Did your original setup of CIV4 say it completed successfully? When did you get the admin error....

Error only comes after installation is complete.
1,550MB is my total after the patch is run.

So it is set up on the system, in the Firaxis folder and an icon is on the desktop. Whether I click the icon, click the Run As method as offered above, or click play from the CD drive, I get the Admin Error of this topic.

I uninstalled some other old games. Now my hard drive reads: 55.8GB capacity, 41.6GB used space, 14.1 GB free space.

I purchased 512MB RAM so that will address some overall speed issues but not this one I think. I'll install that now.

This is unfortunate that there is not a quick easy answer here!

AuldIan - thanks for that link - it did the trick! It took both the Safe Boot method and the DRIVER file needing to be unhidden, but I am up and running.
