Would you please look at my files too. this post is the Desktop I have.

Thank you very much for your time.

PS I love Civ3. I have been afraid to buy Civ4 because of all the problems I have been reading about.

Feel free to delete the file & Post after your done since it's rather large at above 50K.

Hi Again this file is for my laptop which I play the game Civ3 on most of the time. If Civ4 would run on this laptop and would not screw up my laptop I but it today.

Thanks for all your effort in giving me good advice. I'll check back tonight or Sunday afternoon.

Neither will run it - sorry ....

They use integrated graphics chips - "on board" graphics, and the game does not support those.

Game hardware specs:

Your Dell PC has a PCI bus with no AGP port, so upgrading to a card is not an option there either. Your PC specs are:

Its a PC/Laptop upgrade to run it I'm afraid...

Re Civ problems - its certainly true there were a number of problems around, patch V1.52 solved many. The initial release was driven by the commercial side of life with the Xmas market in mind, dont mix that up with the Firaxis programmers ability. The latter are good, they had a commercial deadline to meet initially - thats a commercial decision not theirs - when they had the chance V1.52 came along. I anticipate the stability & features will improve markedly over the mext couple of months / as the year goes by. Dont be too swayed by negative posts, in the region of 6m copies went out, and you will only hear of those with problems, the rest dont bother to say "its ok".

At present the majority of problems post V1.52 are those with hardware not meeting the game requirements, such as yours that you are wisely checking first before buying ....

Of course you may hit issues, and its frustrating (been there :) ) but thats no more so than other games - particularly in the earlier releases.

never mind... I found the perfect soloution (no...not buying a new computer... that's to perfect to be true) I downloaded the demo. didn't knew there was one.

First thanks a lot.

I need my LapTop for AutoCad. I remember years ago that I need to purchase the numeric co-processor for AutoCad to work. I guess the Games now push the limits of computers. I purchased my LapTop for business on 2/16/2005. I swear it runs Civ 3 faster than my desktop. Is their any current LapTops out their that work with Civ 4 ?

i.e. in my business I keep a LapTop just short of 2 years turn it back into Gateway and get a credit towards a new system. Since I am a Land Surveyor working outside all time, I'm looking forward to the day when the 'tablet' is robust enough to take with me on a dirty construction site and can withstand a drop to ground from waist level. I have often thought about purchasing the Panasonic ToughBook but last February the comparisons I was doing caused me to eliminate the ToughBook due to price/performance. Of course Gateway salesman claim their two new tablets will stand up to the jobsite. When I ask them to demonstrate a drop test they will not do it; unlike the Panasonic ToughBook salesman that not only dropped it but then kicked across the room all while running windows XP and not missing a beat. Nice LapTop if you can afford it.

Gamming laptops will work with CIV IV. But, I would not recommend drop kicking them across a construction site.)

Mid level to high level Alienware laptops should run anything you want and they are configurable to what you need.

Dont know about the drop kicking part tho.)

also dont expect them to be light or cheap.
