Btw quick question re stealth attacks which F-15's and nuclear subs How does it work???

When bombing a city nothing happens that doesn't when using a normal bomber how do you excess the ability to target specific units or building/wonder.

Cheers

Did I post a dum question or does no one know the answer?,
I've never been the Americians and dont often get to the stage were I can build F-15's when I did there wasn't an option to use stealth attacks, why?

Cheers

Speaking on behalf of warmongerers, we don't (or shouldn't) know :) I hardly even get to the Industrial age, never mind modern...

yes it is... kind of, or actually it can do precision-bombing... but you first have to research the stealth-tech.

Sure, it can do precision-bombing, but a "stealth" unit in the game is one that has a hidden nationality, yes?

I forget how the precision bombing thing works....I only just started playing again after a hiaatus, but isn't there a specific button you click on to activiate precision bombing? (instead of just clicking on the bomb icon, click on the crosshairs? Not sure)

You need Smart Weapons to "Smart Bomb" something. A "Stealth Attack" attacks the weakest unit (usually the best attacker).

Ouch...lots of confusion.

'Stealth' (Subs, Ninjas, Assassins) = The Attacker can choose the target from the stack
'Precision' (Stealth Bomber/Fighter,? dunno, never get there) = can choose which city improvement is targeted.

Both don't work on the same unit IIRC. Invisible has nothing to do with any of it.

No, Stealth bombers don't have hidden nationality, and neither do subs. Stealth means it's hard to shoot down, as far as subs go they are hard to find except why destroyers and such. Once you fight them you will know which nation they belong too. The only unit AFAIK that has hidden nationality is the privateer.

Okay, I'm totally lost here....so some quick questions:

1.) "Stealth" means difficult to hit?
2.) "Hidden Nationality" means AI/other players cannot determine nationality of the unit
3.) "Precision BOmbing" requires the Smart Weapons tech and allows you to choose targets in city.
4.) "Stealth Attack" = attacker can choose the target from a stack. (But isn't this precision bombing?)

1.) "Stealth" means difficult to hit?
Not directly, the Stealth Bomber only has a better defence, but 'Precision Strike' units are harder to hit IIRc (as said, the very late game abilities aren't that familar to me)
2.) "Hidden Nationality" means AI/other players cannot determine nationality of the unit
The Human, no. The AI knows it (their attitude goes down), but pretent to NOT know it - no war declaration.
3.) "Precision BOmbing" requires the Smart Weapons tech and allows you to choose targets in city.
Not units, city improvements.
4.) "Stealth Attack" = attacker can choose the target from a stack. (But isn't this precision bombing?)
Can choose the UNIT to target.

OK, I just checked the editor to make sure I'm using the right terms here. It's unfortunate that these different abilities have similar-sounding names.

Stealth Attack: This is an ability for regular combat units which lets them pick which enemy in a stack to attack. In the epic game, only submarines have this. The stealth fighter and bomber have this ability, but it does NOTHING for them because they do not attack, they bombard.

Stealth: This ability is for planes only and reduces the chance of them being intercepted by enemy planes and ground-based anti-aircraft weapons. Stealth bomber and stealth fighter have this ability.

Precision Bombing: Allows a plane to target city improvements only, rather than improvements, population, or units. I think the actual improvement targeted is selected randomly, but I haven't used this ability in a long time. Stealth fighter, stealth bomber, and F-16 have this.

Invisible: This unit cannot be seen, unless you move a unit onto the invisible unit's square, or your unit can "detect invisible". In the epic game only submarines are invisible. Submarines and destroyers have "detect invisible".

Hidden Nationality: The unit looks and behaves like a barbarian; it can attack and be attacked by anyone, even when war is not declared. Privateers have this.

As for the original question: to use the submarine's stealth attack ability, just attack a stack of enemy ships like normal. You'll be given a choice of which ship you want to attack. For the F-16, you have to use the precision bombing button instead of the usual bombing button.

Thanks, Nullspace. I'm printing this out so I don't forget.

And I must say, the phrase "stealth attacK" seems linguistically inaccurate to me, but since that's the term the programmers used, I guess we have to go with it. Hmmm. Unless they imply that the submarine can sneak up on a specific (unsuspecting) naval unit....
