Help! What to do in this situation?

Or let's archive it forever because it was that clever.

Remember Sirp, I want you to post this scenario/save ;) I wanna play it.

I agree, it deserves permenant archive.
I didn't get it till the very end and it does not present any political views.
I have to applaude this effort for its amusement value alone and even further for its cleverness.

This is very clever. I'm terribly impressed. I saw the analogy right away, but didn't realize the author's intent until
about 10 turns later,
.

I'm new around these here parts, and I don't know for sure what all is appropriate and what ain't.

I do know that
my actions are causing the Babylonians to disband
,
I really don't like Hammurabi for some reason, but I can't put my finger on it!
,
I am NOT sure if the 'hidden nationality' units are actually coming from the Babylonians
, and perhaps others are comments that do indeed appear to reflect a certain political stance.

As a result, perhaps this is better suited to a different forum. But that's a call for others wiser (and with more authority!) than I.

I don't think Sirp's post would have suffered a bit without the excerpts I mentioned, but had it been posted to a different forum, I may have missed it. That would have been a shame. Nicely done.

You may be (relatively) new here, Mongrel, but your opinion is as valid as anyone else's. ;)

FWIW, those three lines you quoted, to me, could apply to many games I have seen. I certainly cannot tell, from reading this thread, what Sirp's position is on the current war.

Chieftess and I (and TF ;) ) will have to talk about where to put this thread for "posterity". :)

I kind of see the humor in it, but like I said, I'm dense. ;) So, maybe it will go to Humor & Jokes soon...

You forgot the part about building the 'Homeland Security w/Total Information Awareness' wonder to quell dissent.

The only thing missing are those pesky journalist running into the combat zones. Hey - you shot me!

We may want to move it to either Humor & Jokes or Stories & Tales, though.
What, you mean depending on the outcome of the game, Padma? ;)

If, as the writer of the thread, I get a say in it, I'd much rather it go to off-topic than humor & jokes.

As for the 'hot quotes', I think Padma is right, people say things like that all the time in games of CivIII.

-Sirp.

The only reason you might want to avoid Off Topic is that a lot of the posters there don't even play CivIII so they might not appreciate the work that went into this post. You would also then run the risk of getting the thread highjacked by people debating unrelated things, and of an incident leading to the thread being closed or otherwise lost.

I haven't heard back from Padma or Chieftess, but again I hope you at least get Screenshot of the Day out of this...

Yep! In the OT forum this thread would likely survive for about half an hour before the first threadjacking took place and that would be a shame, 'cause this is a very nice thread

Well, as far as I can see, from the attached map, you already decided to go to Bagdad (hope the cofee is good there). At this point, I would suggest you to take all cities from former Babs and install new government, the soonest the best, as you will be able to stop setting population on diet. War weariness may also be an issue very soon as you are in Demo. So, better to go fast.
The English might help you to take one or two cities.
Now at least you fixed your oil problem, and you won't have to spend so many gpt to your 'friends' the Arabs for their oil.
Let see how Arabs will react when you will definitly not renew the oil deal, hope they do not become 'annoyed’.

You also reported that play with a mod that uses some land units with hidden identity, and you were NOT sure 'hidden nationality' units are actually coming from.
Different possibilities, -1- ‘hidden nationality units’ comes from Babs, you solved your issue by taking all cities, -2- ‘hidden nationality units’ comes from Arabs, you pretty solved your problem as by not renewing your expensive deal for oil with them, they may not afford anymore the cost per turn for their units, and may have to disband some, -3- other : Persia / Ottoman / German / France … You are going to have to fight against them again and again until you finally found from where they come from.

Looking at the Korea, setting a good relationship with China should help a lot in solving this issue. You wrote Korea is in Communisme, but what about China ? If China has the same type of government than Korea, they must have ‘some’ relation each other. The problem is that if you go to war against Babs, it may annoy China, and you will have to deal directly with Korea.
Thats a tough game, what level are you playing ?

Oh yes, that's what I'm trying for. I'm just having second thoughts as to whether it's the best option.

At this point, I would suggest you to take all cities from former Babs and install new government, the soonest the best, as you will be able to stop setting population on diet.

On diet? Do you mean starving them down? That's a bit of a despotic, brutal move don't you think? I'm rescuing them from an evil dictator, I don't want to be just as evil to them myself!

War weariness may also be an issue very soon as you are in Demo. So, better to go fast.

Oh yes, it's already an issue! I am trying to go as fast as I can!

My armors are at the front of the attack force, and they're fine, but the enemy keeps striking at weaker units behind them!

The English might help you to take one or two cities.

Oh yes, the English are being very helpful.

Now at least you fixed your oil problem, and you won't have to spend so many gpt to your 'friends' the Arabs for their oil.
Let see how Arabs will react when you will definitly not renew the oil deal, hope they do not become 'annoyed’.

That's true. I hope the Arabs will still be my friends.

You also reported that play with a mod that uses some land units with hidden identity, and you were NOT sure 'hidden nationality' units are actually coming from.

Yes, I think that at least some of them might be coming from the Babylonians, but I haven't confirmed it. The Persians I also suspect, and the Arabs maybe as well. I don't think the Koreans, although I guess it's possible. I would barely even consider it being the Germans, French, English etc!

Looking at the Korea, setting a good relationship with China should help a lot in solving this issue. You wrote Korea is in Communisme, but what about China ? If China has the same type of government than Korea, they must have ‘some’ relation each other.

Oh yes, China is communist too. They are pretty powerful - they're ranked #1 in population I think.

The problem is that if you go to war against Babs, it may annoy China, and you will have to deal directly with Korea.

Yeah China is already annoyed with me. The game is very tough. It's being played at Warlord difficulty.

I fully understand your point of view, and agree with you when you said it is a bit despotic, brutal move to starve them down.
But do you have the choice when you decide to go to war and take the city of Baghdad (Pop size 15 per the attached map) ?
When the city will be taken, how do you really expect to feed 15 Pop with only 9 tiles ?

You don't want to be just as evil to them but unfortunatly, the war won't let you take this choice, and the 15 Pop will deffinitly suffer.

I wish to see that, please post again after you played a bit more.

So my guess was good regarding the government type of China.

It should not be too difficult to check, it is your game. Is not it ?

Population decrease due to bombardment has tormented the poor residents of Bagdad enough (you did say you were afraid of that, too), so I think starving down pop is not a good choice. I suggest to irrigate a few tiles near Bagdad as soon as possible. I can see there are a lot of mines at the moment, but I think they have been build to improve the production capacities for military units. These mines are useless now because unstable conditions at the moment will probably lead to a high rate of waste of shields (imaging looting). So there's really no problem in saving population (and yeah, I suspect your mod has this feature starvation->unhappiness, just like the pop-rushing thing). Of course, you need some workers immediately to get the irrigation jobs done, but you may ask France (or others with attitude changes due to your recent actions) for help. I'm guessing one or another civ has workers in their capitol waiting for a job (and again, me thinks your mod is behaving slightly different to unmodded attitude rules for trading workers). I'm not so sure about the price for a worker here. Just demanding a worker... no. Paying the usual price... no. Somewhere in the middle. That'll bring back former attitude status.
Connect to your trade network very soon, too. The former despot could have controled residents moods (and dependent on this: order in general) by police units. As you've a democratic gov, you can't do that. But if they were able to participate in trading, they might become happy again. Of course, some powerful police units could help you to quell resistance (& they can keep an eye on Ottomans: perhaps they try to take any advantage of unstable conditions).

I just noticed how everything is in the ancient ages ;)

Ok, great news guys! The English captured Basra, and I just captured Baghdad! It was easier than I thought it would be, after a tough time with some Babylonian guerillas earlier on in the fighting! The people are celebrating WLKD to welcome me! :hammer:

Now what to do next?
