Hi, is there anywhere to get some help with getting started with Civ6 ModBuddy?

I have used the Civ5 ModBuddy for several years, but when I try to make and build an extremely simple mod in the new Civ6 ModBuddy, it gives me a fail on building and a not very helpful message telling me "Error: Parameter "escapedValue" cannot be null."

Goto

tools -> options then the civilization 6 tab at the bottom

Then set the correct paths thats what made it build correctly for me. You will need to download the SDK assets if you havn't already also.

Guess I might as well ask here.

What is ModBuddy exactly and what does it do? Assuming that it helps with mods (which is what it sounds like), how do I find it?

Thanx, that solved it. Turns out it was missing link to the SDK assets.

Its not allowing me to select the asset directory, that command line remains blank?

Any idea why?

@Leyrann You can download it by going to the Library in Steam then selecting tools. The Modbuddy basically helps you organize then build all your files into a modinfo file rather then doing it manually effectively creating a mod.

@Saldrin I was having issues with that you will probably need to copy paste the file path in like I did and it will work.

I went to the Library in Steam and selected tools. I see 85 of them but none of them for Civ vi. Do I need a special version of Civ to get accesst to it?

That is wierd I have no idea, I don't think you even need access to civilization 6 to download it. There should be 90 tools that popup.

thanks for your reply. I am going to see if I can update Steam somehow although it does that every day (it sais).

Later: I tried all sort of things. Even changing the Steam server I download from but all efforts sofar result in "85" tools and none for Civ VI. Anyone else having this problem?

I could also do with some modbuddy help. I've never modded a Civ game before, and I have absolutely no clue what I'm looking at half the time when I open the example mod in ModBuddy. I think I might be stuck until someone comes out with an actual tutorial on how to use it and what you change for which things. It's not exactly user-friendly for new modders.

I have 83 in the "tools" list in Steam, but two of them are "Sid Meier's Civilization VI Development Assets" and "Sid Meier's Civilzation VI Development Tools". Is it one of those two?

Yup. Modbuddy is in the "Development Tools" one.

Where is the SDK Assets link supposed to go to?

When you download the Assets package (next to the development tools), you need to specify what directory it's been downloaded to. Easiest way to do that is to download the Assets, right click, then Properties>Local Files>Browse Local Files and then copy the address at the top of the explorer window. Then paste it into that link.

If you can't build your mod, not having that link might be why.

Ah, I wasn't aware I needed that one too.

Also, wow: 27 GB.

Has anyone figured out how to get mods that don't use assets to build without the 27gb? That is a little much for me..
The steam uploader doesn't seem to fancy my .modinfo without having it be created by the build process

Just put your mod info into the Project->Properties section of a template... then build it, & cut & paste them out... **** load easier than trying to guess what the Steam Uploader doesn't like.

Which so far my list includes European letters, "&' too long a name, too short a name, moe than 128 letter in this, 800 in that... I had hair once!

Yeah that's what I figured, but apparently you need to download the assets to be able to build, and I'd rather not because I don't have a lot of room to spare.

You don't need to build it actually... if you save it there is a filed called .civ6proj that has the info.
