Help with hosting issues

I just got the game with my friend doing the same a few days before. I tried to host a game so we could play together against and with bots. he was unable to connect. we tried it the other way around with him hosting. exact same result. i looked aroudn this and other forums to find help but i am almost completely un-computer savi. i would greatly appreciated if someone would be willing to give a step by step run down of how to get my ability to host working, it will ned to be dumbed down a little though.

I have this exact same problem. My friend and I try to connect to each other, but can't.
We both tried hosting and neither can join the other.
The weird thing is that both of us can join OTHER peoples games, but the two of us can't connect to the same game at the same time.
Does any one have any idea what could be causing this?
