Help with installing BUFFY

Yeah I don't have Steam either. I have Windows 7, but I think I had the same problem on my other computer, which uses Vista. I've been doing what lymond suggested with saving a copy of the desired config file in a different folder, which works okay, but it's annoying to have to do this all the time.

Dunno then. I just check before playing - if BUFFY doesn't auto load, I know it's been replaced and I fix it manually. The nointro setting sounds like it would work also as an alert.

I'm getting an "login failed" when i try and load up buffy, I can only presume that i didn't install it correctly or I'm missing components.

I'm using the steam version of civ iv with just bts installed/with all patches. I followed the admin tips that were posted but they did not work. And sorry for not getting around to this sooner.

I always appreciate help, i've just been busy over the last few days, returning to college for a new term.

This seems to be login error as per page 2 of this thread. I have no experience with steam. Hopefully Imp will see this thread.

There are people here who have done it and can help but I never could get my Steam version working and gave up. I just re-bought the CD version of the game and it installed Buffy with zero problems... iirc it was about $14 on Amazon for Civ 3 and 4 combo.

The message means what it says. Something is not running with Admin privileges. As a result, the HOFMod/BUFFY is not able to save the data it requires= to verify the save.

Same issue for me

Tried adjusting the setting according to earlier discussions (for example running steam / BTS as admin) Nothing seems to work sadly.

I might have to do as Jenarie did in the last resort. Will wait for a few days in case some solution appears.

Running Windows 8 on a new machine btw. Got to hate that

Yes. Same error upon buffy launch though.

While typing this post I applied Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 7 as last resort.

And it worked!

Gkey had same issue as you both. Have you tried the above?

I had the same issue a year or two ago. I had to go to C:>program files>steam>steamapps>common>civ4bts to the application. Then right click on it and set it to run as admin. Then use the mods section in the ini file to use BUFFY. You have to change the mod in the ini every time you want to use a different mod. I think its somewhere in this thread. If not, another. I know I got the issue solved in a thread somewhere around here.

Edit: Actually my issue in this thread was something different, but there are people who had similar issues. Note: Gkey's issue was with windows 8, not 7.

This is 100% folder permission error. Run as Admin and give full permission to everyone for BTS with all subfolders and Saves folders should help here.

I addition, on Win7 Run in compatipability mod for XP Service pack 2 /3 (Try both!) could do the trick. Sometimes it seem to depend on current phase of moon...

For newcomers: right now Last BTS version on Steam been updated, so it's not 3.19. You Should do something with Beta version there to downgrade it back to 3.19.

might not belong here, but where do you find the logs that are made by buffy?

Are they always created or only if you run "as admin"?

YOu have to activate the buffy log in the buffy options first, else no log will be created

I tried this yesterday, but it didn't work, now granted i might have missed something, can somebody post the correct directory just to be sure?

Edit: I have set the civ iv steam version to the beta tab using the steamworks setup, Ive had it like that now for quite awhile ^^
