Help With Map Views

This is my first post in a forum so bear with me. I recently began playing Civ IV and am having trouble with something called "center world map". Whenever I discover a technology such as the Calendar or when I build Stonehenge my view of the "world" on my computer screen changes and I do not like the way it looks. It appears that discovery of the Calendar or Stonehenge (and maybe other things for all I know) centers the world map. Does anyone know how I can get the view back to normal (by normal I mean the way it looks when the game starts)? Thanks!!

first, welcome to the forum

second, you can use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out and with the mouse, you can push the map (mousing over the border of the screen).

If it doesn't answer your question I'm sorry but I don't know better.

i know you can zoom in and out with the mouse view, but how do you "turn the view?" Isn't there a button(s) you can hold down to look at the map from a 45 degree angle?
