I just installed CivIII and had the skewed screen @ startup. from reading around here it seemed that the easiest temp solution was to run in compatability mode. I ran it the test and it came up fine in win98/SE mode. GREAT! I thought.
Ahh. but then I chose "always run in this mode" or whatever the option was, and it copied some file... (happened too fast to see what, though I think it had a 32 in there someplace) and now I can't run it at ALL. I click on it, the hourglass comes up, and then NOTHING.
I've tried running the test again and no settings work now. I've tried uninstalling, but now I get an error message because of the shared file! HOW do I get it to work? Or to uninstall without deleting a file I probably need?? Or how can I return the settings to before whatever the compatability mode copied over?! I just want to fix it. I love this game and it makes me mad that I paid 40 bucks for it and can't even get it to run when it's supposed to be XP compatible. argh. Any ideas? Please?
I really don't want to mess with the registry or anything like that if I can avoid it. Ironically I'm a techie by day and troubleshoot a great deal, but of course when one's OWN computer is acting up... it's a different story. I just want to run the game, with least disturbance to the OS as possible.
