okay i'm playing as babylon on a warlord game. i have the highest score on the histograph by 80 points. the problem is i'm still despotic at 530 a.d. and if i switch goverments this is what i get.

+1 gpt=despotism
-9 gpt=anarchy
-65 gpt=republic
-19 gpt=monarchy

what the hell. isn't republic supposed to give a commerce bonus?

this was a couple of turns ago and now i've had to set my science down to 20%.

what am i doing wrong? i've got about 40 workers, 30 spears, 20 bowman, 3 pikes, 4 muskets, 2-3 knights, and 1 galley. i've tried disbanding some units but it didn't make any difference.

i'm not sure of how many cities i have but i have like 10 with the prefix new.

so...

help?:(

Your cities can maintain a x number of units.
I don't know your version but if you have no expansions (vanilla) of the game, then the republic supports no units and you pay for your units.
.
If you have conquests, then the unit support is 1 for towns, 3 for cities and 4 for metros.
Your military advisor (F4 ?? ) says "Units" and "allowed units" you can see if your over it. You can go over the "allowed" number of units, but you pay 2 gold for each unit that is over the limit.
Also, in the F1 advisor you can see what the cost is of your army. It says "unit costs" or something.
.
Screenshots help a lot, try to post one.
Also DO NOT make a topic with the title "help". Be more specific.

Most players do these things:

fail to expand quick enough
fail to make enough workers
make too many defenders
fail to make contacts quickly
fail to trade when you should.

The biggest is the lack of workers and not using them well.

my workers are running out of things to do. thats never been a problem for me. well here's an update.

the zulu declared war and i got a golden age out of my last bowman(i disbanded most of them to get within the allowed units for monarchy)

i tried democracy but it was worse than republic. the corruption was really high. i'm going to work towards communism so corruption isn't such a big factor.

It is 1,3 and 4, but extra units cost 2 gpt instead of 1.

Here is the problem: too many units and the wrong ones. You dont have to put 2 defensive units in each town. Just protect the border towns and leave the inner cities empty. Also use offensive units: they can conquer ennemy cities and they also are good at defending your empire. Defensive units can only defend. Finally why in the world did you build those spears
They are 1/2. Babs bowmen are 2/2 for the same price.

Workers running out of things to do, because you do not have enough land. I am not so concerned about worker task in 530AD as I would be in the first 100 to 150 turns.

Demo should not even be researched IMO and neither should Commie in most games. Go to either Rep or Monarchy and stay there. I doubt you have enough land to use communism. You would need a lot of towns.

* what version are you running?
* what's you financial status?
* post a screenshot or savegame...
* you're switching Govs like changing TV chanels. Every time you're in anarchy if you do that. It kills your economy and you're in the wrong Gov I guess.

well here's the screen i think. i think the major problem is that the largest majority of my empire is no where near the capital and corruption is killing me. it's like -116 gpt on democrary i think.

It simply looks, going by the screenshot, that your in empire there are too few tiles being worked in cities with no or low corruption. Ashur and Ellipi for example, are cities in locations close to your capital. IOW they are cities that would be very low on corruption. However, both of them are at size two, i.e. only working three tiles (incl. city center) each.

Your problem is not so much that you are spending too much money. It is rather that you are making too little.

I would second Lord Emsworth's suggestion to build up the size of the cities near your capital. I would also suggest building MORE cities near your capital. I realize that there's a lot of jungle nearby that you'd have to clear, but if you build a city on a jungle tile that jungle disappears on that square, and you've said that your workers need things to do...well, this is their next job.

City placement could be a bit tighter, but it's pretty close to how I do mine, (Loose around the capital, tight everywhere else) so that's not a big issue. The main thing I see is a lack of workers. I dunno how many you have there exactly, but that jungle should almost be gone by now.

:D
Just an idea, but Green and Red don't seem too big.
Can you get to war with Green and get Red involved?
You will have Red do most of the fighting, and afterwards you can destroy Red.
(And take that lone Green city in the process.)

i haven't played this game in a little while. but right now both of them would be pretty trying right now. i'll be building calvary soon and i think i'll take out rome(red) and then persia(green)

Seriously.
Attach your savegame in a post (it's not that hard) and there will be people who can see the problem.

One thing on unit support here ... The game here is from a Vanilla (C3) game if I am not mistaken. And the Republic in Vanilla and PTW has no built-in unit support at all. You pay one gold per unit per turn and that is it.
