I just added some random islands and then stopped, because it's not really worthwhile to add all islands to a rough draft.

Aye. I guess the exact Civs will have to wait for Civ5.It's not a wacky idea, I did this in some of the maps I made for Civ IV, but it looks really ugly with the way the rivers look in Civ IV. From the screenshots it seems like this will look much better in Civ V.
Ideally, city states will be freely modable which would allow for Copenhagen or other Skandinavian cities to be included in the map. But that remains to be seen.
My map is roughly 650 hexes by 400 hexes.
What? The map you posted is 157x73
If someone could make a spherical hex-map of Earth (with the 12 pentagons for curvature) and post it here, that would be awesome.
Sweet, so now we can actually have a spherical earth map instead of some toroidal/cylinder/square map =D.
I don't think Firaxis will include a map with pentagons.
They could simply put the pentagons on impassable terrain tiles, if there are any.
For those still wishing for a spherical map with pentagons, read this post:

It's highly, highly unlikely that Civ will implement a spherical map for the reasons that poster described better than I would be able to.
