Hi,

First ... the mod is very good. Having played FFH and 3 of the mod mod of FFH, I can tell that Orbis is so far more fine tuned than the others, I like the attention to details put into game balance, the little touches that make you realize the chief modder(s) of Orbis really revised everything.

I have just 2 gripes...

First... griffons. They are ruling the world, simply. Strength 6 griffons going to strength 10, able to spawn a lair without expanding the unit. Is it a bug btw?

It is to the point that even parties made of 2 hunters + 2 archers get killed some 15 tiles away from my kingdom. Contacts with the others civ are very scarce, and I see damaged hunters of them from time to time, trying to rest before the other onslaught... but generally they get killed by another pack of uber-griffon coming around.

Second gripe, 'running after gold'. Even monitoring closely my spending (meaning not recruiting too many units, etc.) and not building too much cities (combating ICS is good, going all the way around is not good), focusing on cottages, etc. I find very hard to maintain a decent income, more often than not, my research % goes down as time passes ... I'm now at 50%, and I'll perhaps have to go lower, despite an almost single minded focus on making more gold (involving also prioritizing commerce techs).

I know I can resist this gold crush somehow, if I apply all my skills. But is it interesting? Definitively not! The game is so tight and hard on this aspect that it gives not enough freedom for others things. We have to devote almost all our energy in combating inflation and gold pressure. I'm playing a civ without any eco trait btw, so your experience may differ if you are financial, but for the 'mundane people', yes it is too focused on this problem.

Its been some months since I last played Orbis, but I do remember we were having a heated discussion regarding the merits of the forest economy in Orbis, and how it overpowered all others.

I assume Ahwaric fixed this, but if he didn't, I would advocate using survival/forester's lodge combined with FoL to gain the maximum economy. I don't remember all of the numbers, but I do remember that it was far superior to any other type of economy in the mod.

Of course, if he's patched it since then, the above advice may be moot and irrelevant.

After further investigation, I see some new versions of Orbis came out, so the forest economy was likely weakened (I hope anyways).

I'm downloading the newest version now, so I really can't comment yet. I used to be able to make heaps of cash in most Orbis games, although I did favor the financial trait.

I haven't had any problem with money, but I play as the palatinate and with the merchant leader. MER trait + Wealth civic + Tolls + Merchant specialist = Steady income.

You think the Griffons are bad? Try going to sea, where the Sea Serpents live.
