Hey, what's everyone's Favourtie Resource?

grassland iron or ivory

floodplains deer or fur (in great plains)

I have had good results whenever I have gold hills / floodplains at the start (I know, that's two). Hammers, research and quick population growth = a killer combo.

Copper. I usually get BW well in advance of AH or IW (if I can afford to delay the latter two), and if you've got no copper, you are in big trouble militarily and have to adjust your whole opening strategy in an attempt to stay alive.

Id have to say oil or A.K.A black gold

Oil & aluminum, if I have em and you don't and you don't beat me before I need em, you will lose.

Beat me fast or not at all.

Hard choice... I would have to say(In no order)

Stone(Stonehenge and Pyramids)
Marble(The Oracle)
Iron(Copper units + Swordsman)
Ivory(ELEPHANTS!)
Gold(very useful)
Clams/Fish/Crabs(They all do the same thing)

My favourite resource isnt even one as such: plains/fresh water (is it plains?)

The one with 5 Food and ocassionally a gold thrown in.
It´s like Corn/Wheat with a farm on it from start!
Don´t need no worker, no research or time, just click it and grow.

Also, the one with 4 food, one hammer, one gold.

I don´t found cities unless theres at least one of those in the inner rim.

Fish on coastal Cities (an early 6 Food!)
Combi of Corn, Gold and Stone/Marble (had that once with Gandhi...omg, poor enemies!)
floodplains always a goodn! I prefer building those villages on it, I rarely irrigate...
best city start position is pelts on yellow hill near river, which gives you 2/2/2. Never had this one though...
Ivory/Horses is good to have but doesnT help long enough. Spearmen too strong.
lategame: Oil and Aluminium of course, to stomp your enemies to the ground. :goodjob:
I donT like cows/pigs/sheep, cause the thech to use them is to expensive early game.
And I like those recs, which give you 1 health AND one happy face like wine, sugar or spice.

I mostly agree. It really pains me to chop down the trees.:(

Same here... I actually make it a point not to chop down forests to rush anything. ... the only reason i'll replace a forest with an improvement is if i'm really short on food OR if there's an important resource i need.
... maybe the only thing i'm missing from civ 3 is the 'plant forest' button... let the worker give something back to the planet, you know? :goodjob:

My fav. resource has to be the cow i think... especially if it's on a plain square... what was it again? 2 or 3 food, 3 shields and some commerce? It's a bit of a jack of all trades kind of thing. Floodplains with cottages etc. are fun too.

On a sidenote: who uses windmills on hills? I've *never* found a need for them...

I do! It's in fact an important feature to balance food supply or make every terrainfield, that COULD be used, count. Especially in those coldcold terrains, I use to come out in...

Gold, iron, oil, cow (moo, dammit!) and ivory.

Other than those...anything I can get my hands on!

I do to. Windmills on grassland hills to get 2 food. It does depend on what other resources you have around you though.

Back on topic, my favorite resource is probably oil, I like modern warfare.

I very RARELY chop, but you really do have to when you get to higher difficulty levels. I play on Prince, and its very important to quickly chop settlers and courthouses. I also sometimes chop for wonders. What difficulty do you play on? And windmills rule! I replace all of mines not getting resources with windmills as soon as I get machinery. And I think there is some techs that gett windmills more commerce...

1) Gold on hill (2H/7C/+1 hapiness in early game is just amazing in your first city fat cross !) => in Gotm9, with 2 gold, I can manage a fabulous early reseach output (with CS sling shot, academy and library)
2) Copper (Axeman)
3) Marble (Oracle, Great Library)
4) Stone
5) Pig, Cow, Fish

While I agree with the standard strategic resources, I am most happy with a start if it is on a coast and I have fish (multiple seafood even better.)

2 Wheat on plains, Cow on grassland and Uranium and Iron in Hills for my capital city.
ok im gonna load the editor now and make this. with the ideal resources. yeah baby
