After haveing seen quite some of the new preview streams, I can say I love this new incarnation of Civilization!
There is just one caveat, which surprises me especially, as map readability was frequently mentioned as one of the main goals for the design of new map visuality:
Is it just me, or are hills sometimes hard to recognize?
This may vary in dependence to the ligth direction a bit, but sometimes I have the feeling that I will have to mouse-over certain hexes to be sure about the terrain feature. And while this is amplified for hills under forest (especially rain forest), it is also true for plain, empty tiles.
What could be solution?
- Increase the hill's hight a bit (approx. 25-50%) in order to accentuate shadows?
- Add some rocks or boulders as additional features?
- Alter the texture a bit so hills don't look as smooth as plain tiles any more?
Or isn't this an issue at all for others and it's just me?
