Historical NES II - The Dark Valley

Julienne, check your PMs. I gave you an explaination and a royal tongue lashing.

To:President Franklin D. Roosevelt
From:Kemal Ataturk

Although we accept your excuse we think your efforts are laughable. You don't have support either by your congress, economy nor your people.Even here in Ankara reports about the strikes in the manufacturing belt and Texas arrive. This 'Anti-Fascist' Alliance is a joke, even more that its by a nation who not even joined League of nations.Do this and you can talk FRIENDLY with European and Asian nations. But this won't happen so stay on your big continent.

To:Il Duce Roberto Berluciane
From:Kemal Atatürk

Akthough we probably have a bit different ideas of government both our nations believe in a strong and laizistic state. We are both heirs of great Empires and we have to work closely together to rebuild them.

To:Emperor Henry Pu-Yi
From:Kemal Atatürk

As Italy needs the resources from North Africa and we need the Oil from Iraq and Arabia you need the resources from China and South East Asia. But our efforts are undermined by nations rich of resources by their Empires like France,Britain and especially America.I suggest our 3 nations sign a MPP to create an axis Rome-Ankara-Tokyo to coordinate our quest for resources.

Toasty: Calm down. Alienating players isn't the best idea, and plus you forget that Roosevelt was an idealist. It wasn't 99% of Americans who disliked getting involved in Europe, I'd say it was more like 75% or less. Also, America took the stance after the war of international peacekeeper. With a more energetic President who could make his people believe in his decisions without question, America may have been able to take this role sooner. Plus I didn't know we had to play completely to role.

Sorry to have a go, but you need to calm down!

Also, I have a question. How many squadrons can an aircraft carrier hold?

THE TIMES NEWSPAPER

CHURCHILL DECLARES A RADICAL SHAKE-UP FOR THE EMPIRE

Winston Churchill, known more as a military man rather than a diplomat and a economist, surprised everyone today with a series of new and radical moves.

He declared that to lessen the economic strain of running the Empire, it would be split into three autonomous "Military Districts".

The name caused immediate concern from some anti-war groups, but Churchill assured them this just reflected the layout of his troops. Sources say that the Military Districts will each have their own armies to deploy, and be equipped with transports(for those split by the sea) to re-deploy quickly. This is said to be due to a lack of forces to protect the huge Empire, so Churchill is looking at methods of quick-reinforcement of areas in danger.

The three zones are known as the Atlantic Military District(Britain, Canada and the Atlantic Ocean), the African Military District(Africa, Egypt and the Middle East), and the Indian Military District(India, Australia and the Indian Ocean).

Another surprise was Churchill actually welcoming Norway's naval buildup, which many said he would oppose.

TO NORWAY
FROM BRITAIN

We wish to have good relations with you, and hope to sign an MPP with you.

TO AMERICA
FROM BRITAIN
We will of course sign a defensive MPP with you, to help prevent the spread of Communism, Fascism and Absolute Monarchies worldwide.

However, may I suggest that you do not embargo the Chinese, they are our allies against the Imperialist Japanese! The Chinese are only a military junta due to their civil war, and now their leaders have banded together to fight a common foe. That is a feat worthy of praise, not embargoes!

We will however embargo Italy, Mexico, Turkey and Japan should they continue to threaten Britain(we are withdrawing our embargo of Italy for now so as not to provoke them at this delicate time).

TO GERMANY
FROM BRITAIN

We wish you the best in your military build-up - we hope you will use it to eradicate Communism or Fascism, and not against democracies. To that ideal, we offer you a non-aggression pact.

TO ITALY, TURKEY, JAPAN, AND MEXICO
FROM BRITAIN

We will embargo you unless you begin to give your people more personal freedom, or in Turkey's case stop agitating for war.

TO RUSSIA
FROM BRITAIN

We have no love lost between our nations, but we do not wish war with the Soviets. To that end, I suggest a non-aggression pact(NAP).

Roosevelt's advisor :
The alliance you proposed to lead is creating problems sir.
The polls showing that the people won't allow any war, even more in Europe. The polls isn't favorable to your reelections ...
Roosevelt :
Sadly, the American people isn't ready to send their fellow boys around the world for the moment.
Roosevelt's advisor :
Economics news aren't good too. Our annual income fallen to 740 per year. Not as much as the economics advisors expected.
Roosevelt :
This is bad news for America and for the world too.
Prepare a special council with the defense secretary and the economics advisors.

To the impossible allies :
I'm sorry to tell you that the alliance that I proposed a few monthes ago is obsolete. With the recents developments in USA, I couldn't afford such economical help to the other countries. And I heard the voice of the American people : they don't want war. I must also break the MPP's done with France.

To help the American's economy, Roosevelt decide a new economical politic : The New Deal.

UK, I realize what you're getting at, but there wasn't a man in America who could've done that (pardon Huey Long, who was shot anyways :p). I'm sorry for exploding like that, but in order for this game to be even remotely fun we can't all be idealists--and there certainly wasn't an abundance of them in the middle of the Great Depression.

Julien, I'm sorry for exploding like that, but I've stated that it was the exact opposite of what America did, what this game needs, and that in the 30s and there was a slim-to-none chance of it happening.

Also, you don't have to play extremely to character, no one does, but that was so outside the realist aspect of even Roosevelt's personality it upset me.

Although the US might have this sort of attitude post-WWII, it was a very different country in the Great Depression, at home and abroad. I've studied this era very thoroughly, especially what happened here at home, and I would like to to bare some resemblance to what actually happened.

Again, I apologize for getting so angry, but I think my point was valid and I stick to it. The US was not prepared in any aspect, at this time, to accept the kind of moves that are being made here.

To:Prime Minister Winston Churchill
From:Kemal Atatürk

Although the Turkish people have a special hate at your person we will calm down our feelings to talk rationally.
Turkey does not agitate for war!But its very clear you fear for other nations to become more powerful than the once mighty British Empire and want to hold us from gaining resources. So Italy,Turkey and Japan have to defend against this.
However we would sign a NAP with the United Kingdom if you lift your sanctions on the three nations named above and if you give Malta to Italy and Cyprus to our Turkish republic.

To:Chairman Stalin
From:Kemal Atatürk

Do not believe in Churchills words! He seeks do destroy Communism worldwide.Although we don't believe in Communism we are both at least laizistic, not like the British King who is simultaneously head of the Anglican church.

To Russia
From France
Although we don't share a comman border we wish to propose a common border

To America
From France
Tell you lazy fat pigsto really start to think. How can they contuie a neutral postition when trouble is already brewing will you let our all of our men die first before you send ytour a few of your men to last?

RULE CHANGE

USA's income is now 780.

UK, carriers can carry 4 fighters or 2 bombers, or any mixture of both (read: 2 fighters and 1 bomber).

To: Kemal Ataturk
From: Joseph Stalin

While you advise me not to sign a NAP with Churchill you sign one yourself? You are not making sense Kemal...

To: Winston Churchill
From: Joseph Stalin

You also contradict yourself... but I very tentatively accept your Non-Agression Pact. I hope both our countries will prosper.

To: France
From: Joseph Stalin

I agree. We will then sign a Non-Agression Pact.

To Britain :
Your embargos against agitating countries are pleasing me very much. USA is happy to see that your country is worrying about these regimes. I will gladly sign a defensive MPP with you.

To France :
As I told before, the alliance I proposed is obsolete. I can't even sign a MPP for the moment because of the situation in USA. I can't afford multiple alliance that could destroy my chances of relection.

To Italy and Mexico :
Even if the AFA isn't a reality anymore, the trade embargo is already in vigor. Unless your regime change.

To Japan :
I respect your long living monarchy but Mandchouria belongs to China, and, as I said before, you have an important role in this Asian tragedy. That's why I'm signing a trade embargo against you unless Mandchouria is returned to China.
With this done, a NAP could be signed between our nations.

To China :
I understand your position but I don't think a militaristic regime is a solution. I will tolerate this regime until mandchouria is given back to your country.

To the others free nations :
You can't count on the USA for the moment but you know my diplomatic position upon fascists regimes. You can count on my diplomatic support.

OOC : Toasty, does the American people agrees to a MPP with England ? ;)

TO TURKEY
FROM BRITAIN

You have about as much chance of getting territory diplomactically from me as you have of becoming the next Florence Nightingale.

Also, Cyprus isn't held by the British(at least not from what I can see on the map, if it's the island I think it is), and Malta is too important to us(OOC- Kennelly, I know where Malta is, but it's too small to have been shown on the map, so why bother with it?!).

Anyway, if you will forget those outrageous demands, we will sign a NAP with all of your alliance(we haven't yet embargoed them, we just said that we might, read it more closely above).

Britain wishes for war with no one. I know I personally expressed my dislike for fascism and military regimes, and my distaste for Communism, but my people would never support me if I went to war over something they consider so trivial. Plus my dislike isn't strong enough to waste British lives over. Finally, I'm also a businessman, looking to make the Empire wealthy. I'd make a deal with the devil to make the Empire strong! :)

I have learnt the hard way myself how foolish it is to attack Turkey, if you remember. I lost my favourite job over that, was hated by the British public for it, and still the lives of the dead weigh heavily on my conscience.

Finally, I also order a day of Rememberance in Britain for those lost at Gallipolli(spelling?!), British(and Empire troops) and Turkish.

Your friend,

Winston Churchill

OOC: Julien, I'm sorry for getting on your case. I won't interfere unless I find it ABSOLUTELY necessary, as is the case with everyone else. Don't let my, er, shall we say, "comments" be a hindrance to you.

Waiting on orders from das, Demetrias and WarlordMatt. Then we can move on to Summer 1932.

News from Beijing

Mao Zedong reviewed the world situation from the Forbidden Palace.

His National Revolutionary Army had only taken command of the government three years earlier with the capture of this city. But now the Japanese assault on Manchuria had left his hold on power in a precarious position. Further losses to the Nippon forces could well lead to even his home province of Hunan falling to local uprisings.

He needed to find peace with the Japanese, and consolidate this part of the world, or he knew that many countries, including the western powers of England, France, and Russia would be drawn into expanding civil war.

Mao hoped that the Emperor of Japan would see the value of a strategic partnership for the future, but had to prepare for the continuing hostilities.

Mao knew that while the short term strategic situation was dire, he had several factors working in his favor for the long run. First, he could eventually outman Japan in the field many fold, and his control of the military was absolute. He could also appeal to the other nations of the world for economic and industrialization assistance. Surely the other powers would like China as a barrier to uncontrolled Japanese agression.

Mao had goals, first the army would be built so China could secure her borders, and secondly, China would rise from a secondary power to a equal partner on the world stage. The people deserved nothing less...

Urgent Communique
To: Emperor Henry Pu-Yi, Japan
Subj: Proposed Cease Fire

Emperor,

China wishes our hostilities to end. We did not dispute the occupation of Korean territories by the IJA, however we both know the Manchurian Incident was a fabrication, and inturn the occupation of three eastern provinces unlawful.

In return for immediate cease fire and withdrawl from some territories, Bejing will release all claims and recognize Japanese ownership of the Korean peninsula, and the Manchurian Province east of the 124th parallel (OOC: Basically a N-S line through Qiqihar in the north to Fushun in the south on your modern maps).

I hope you will quickly consider this generous offer, as I am afraid I will not be able to control my Generals much longer, who will never stop until all 1 billion Chinese people fight this outrageous occupation.

Regards,
Chairman Mao

Mr. President,

China acknowledges your comments regarding Japanese involvement with our government.

I can assure you it is my intention to prevent such involvement in the future, as China has been an independant civiliation for all of recorded history. However, China is threatened by expansionist Japan, and we ask for your help with diplomatic pressure and knowledge of industry.

It is my hope that our two cultures can establish a long and fruitful relationship.

Best Regards,
Mao

To: PM Churchill, President de Gaulle, and Premier Stalin

China hopes to become a bastion of peace and stability in the SE Asia region. We feel that all three of your great nations may have much interest in seeing that come to pass, allowing you to focus your efforts on other parts of the world.

I offer you all pledges of non-aggression from the Chinese people. I hope you will reciprocate, and perhaps assist China in industrialization.

Regards,
Mao

From President Benes.

I wish to prepose an alliance between our Great Nations. We do not wish to have to fight the great Russian Power but we also don't wish for the Russian Empire to take over Europe and as such we must ask that you refrain from attacking Any of my allies or Poland. We strongly wish for everlasting Piece between our nations.

To President Roosevelt
From President Benes.

I ask for your continued economic help in rebuilding our contry and the Eternal Peace between our nations. I to support America in their desire to see all the world have the same freedoms that their people enjoy. They may count on the people of Czechoslovakia to help reign in the Expansionist desire of all facist and imperialistic nations.

To Germany
From President Benes.

I ask that you refrain from trying to take back lands with German populations. Any attemp to reunite the German speaking lands will be seen as an attack against czechoslovakia. don't annex austria we will go to war over it. Do not attack poland we will go to war over it. We declare these under the Protection of Czechoslovakia. We offer you a Nap if you will refrain from these expansionistic ways. You may present us with any other offer you wish we are open to negotiations.

To France
From President Benes.

I ask that you grant us a MPP for the protection of our country. We are surrounded by much larger nations and will need all the assitance you can offer to remain free.

To:Prime Minister Winston Churchill
From:Kemal Atatürk

The Turkish people see gladly the honor which is given to the Turkish and Empire soldiers who died in 1915.However we still refuse to sign a NAP with a nation who still enslaves big parts of the world and denies Turkey,Japan and Italy their rightful part of the world's resources. As the Turkish Republic and I admire the Western living standard we seek to industrialize our country but this will only be possible with Oil.So I suggest you hand over your protectorates of Iraq,Palestine and Jordan to us so Muslims are ruled by Muslims. If you do this we will sign a friendship pact, lift tariffs for british ships crossing the Bosporus and would create a Jewish territory in Palestine according to the Balfour-declaration of 1917.For peace in the region we would relocate all the Arabs there to Iraq.

[OOC I included Malta and Cyprus just to demand something. But I think Cyprus is British on the map. OOC]
