"Historical" performance art...

It has always been a dream of myself and some of my friends to pull this particular little prank...now we've finally gotten into the organization, but could use a little help.

Basically, we want to do this:

1) Dress up as Spanish conquistadors
2) go to downtown Chicago
3) find a median or a flowerpot or some insignificant little piece of land
4) read the Requerimiento
5) claim the land for Spain

Now, the conquistador costumes we know where to get. We can make a Castilian flag for the land claiming. We have a copy of the Requerimiento in Spanish, which I got from the internet here.

What we really need to know:

1) What is the proper procedure for claiming land? Do we simply plant the flag, or is there something else for us to say?

2) What is the formula for a full Castilian name?

3) Is there anything else we're missing or could improve?

A)Ensure you have the proper facial hair

B)ensure that there are no rival English,French,Dutch, or Portugese inthe area

C)remember, dont use guns as part of the costum (at least not your main weapon) but pole, and soward arms

D)re-check the area for those dame Englishmn

E)a monk would look good too

There are 2 procedures that I know all spanish had to take:

1-Verify if the land is West of the Tordesilhas Meridien(roughly 53 West)
2-Celebrate a mess in the claimed land, placing a big cross in it.

Let me know when and where you plan to do this, being from the Chicagoland area I would enjoy seeing this. I promise not to dress like an Frenchman and claim adjacent land.
