Hi just saw the film last night

Loved it :goodjob: ... it was very respectful to Radioplay, Books, Albums, TV mini series, etc ... as each version evolved and was edited to suit the media ... It was very well done in a clever pythonesque way ... not sure if the Yanks will enjoy as much ...

I really liked the subtle use of the towel, proving that it certainly is an essential item to have on your person ...

Zaphod's extra head was wonderfully done ... brilliant ... and I especially liked that his third arm wasn't made into a big deal ...

I was pleasantly serprised by Marvin ... thought that i would hate him ... I nearly crying when i thought he had been killed  ...

I thought I saw 2 connections with the original BBC mini series
> original Marvin ... waiting in line at the Vogon public service
> original Arthur Dent as the Magrothean projection that launches missiles
any more?

I think that all involved had a great time ...

What were your thoughts :p

Me ... I will see it again as there was too much to get in one film ... Oh and wait for the final credits as there is a funny Guide entry ...

It was okay...I thought it was too fastly-edited. Scenes just zip by on the screen before you even know they're there. It also seemed to be more Hammer & Tongs than Douglas Adams.

It was okay.....but in the end, they just came to a sudden stop to everything!!! What happened?
p.s. What was the other entry?

I don't understand the question

He probably means which is the next book in the series.

Having read the books like a million times, it'll probably be impossible for me to be satisfied with the movie unfortunately.

Those are both correct. The Heart of Gold also turns into Douglas Adams' head in the final shot.

Damn I'll check that out ... next week ... thanks ;)

I quite enjoyed it. I laughed my butt off after the firs few lines of the opening song. And since they had the absolute best part in the movie I'm more then happy. Espeically considering I honestly didn't think they were going to put it into the movie.

As for moving quickly and ending suddenly.........thats the books in a nut shell. DA could spend an entire chapter talking about something thats in the Guide, and then spend 2 paragraphs on a quick character interaction before moving on to the next misshap they all find themselves in

All in all I give it a big :goodjob:

My view on the movie is that they could have done more with it, but didn't completely mess it up, which I thought might happen. There were plenty of hilarious parts, and I just couldn't look at Marvin without laughing.

Oh, and I didn't wait for all the credits. What was the final guide entry?

I hear that Ebert hated it and gave it only two stars, but alas, there's a movie critic for ya...

I loved the movie, even if it did end a bit suddenly. There were, however, a few things I noticed that probably could have been done better.

1. The automatic doors on the Heart of Gold only sighed with relief (that particular sigh could be misconstrued as a sigh of depression), and didn't say how glad they were to be of service.
2. They rushed the scene where Arthur and Ford were having a drink a bit as well. In fact, they seemed to rush most of the scenes, but overall, it was still a really good film.

I noticed this as well. I suspect this is actually a bit of corporate self-defence against satire: no doubt Disneyland actually does have doors, somewhere, that talk to you. Even if it doesn't, Disney is precisely the kind of thing the talking doors satirise, so it's understandable that they felt uncomfortable about putting them in.

Good film, not the best but it was a great effort to make a movie out of something that is very hard to depict.

Its an entry from the Guide ... so its very simple animations (which in my opinion was a great touch for all the Guide sections)

Arthur says something ... can't remember and its different in the book ...
Wormhole opens and sucks the words away ... expels them at a crucial juncture in peace negotiations between to space army commanders (in bejeweled battle shorts  ) ... anyway whatever he said is the vilest of insults ... they both join forces to attack the origin ... thousands of years travel ... dive down to earth ... get eaten by a small dog ... the end

Oh and I liked the 'Point of View gun', I suspect that this was from Adams ... and that 'Deep Thought' was Magrothean ...

i saw it last night and enjoyes it alot especiall the scenes involving Marvin i perticually liked it when he was moaning about only having one arm :D

I saw it yesterday. It was alright.

read the book the first time about a week ago. saw the movie friday.

is it just me or do they change the story line a bit in this movie?
the roboty priest guy (the other "candidate" for prez, right?), i dont remember him having a role at all in the book.
the POV gun, while a good idea and fitting to the theme of the book, was not actualy in the book, right?

i loved that "deep thought" was watching cartoons, that was great.
the "That's IT, I'm going after him myself..... oh, hour for lunch everyone...." that was hillarious.

Havn't seen it yet, but I'd just like to ask: How far through the books does the movie go?

I've already read through "Life, the Universe, and Everything", and I'm wondering if I should go any farther before seeing the film.

the film ends with the first book. where they decide to go to the restaurant. that's it.
