Hmm - 3 UK release dates

Maybe the UK release will be different to the european release, this does however seem highly unlikely. I'm defintetly considering biting the bullet and importing the US Pre-release version, which I'm quite loathed to do to be honest.:(

Well, considering the game doesn´t have to be localised for the UK market, there is - i hope - at least a slight chance of it coming out before Nov 4th. If you order it from the US via airmail, chances are you still won´t get it before Friday - and with any luck, it might be in stores over here by then. Think I´ll wait ... and keep my fingers crossed.

4th November, this sucks! shoud I cancel my pre-order now :( I was so happy with 28th. This is so depressing... :(

Edit: It seems, people like me, to check the release date again or cancel the pre-order, crashed Play.com ;)

Okies now I'm REALLY confused! :confused:

I'm also considering cancelling my order it seems to be the only form of protest we have.

I beg to differ! The Uk often gets US products before Europe. If UK shops say 28th, then it will be 28th I reckon.

Fingers crossed then :) I feel a little better knowing it's between 28 and 4th now so we might get it when we supposed to.

The delay in Europe (and the UK is mean't to be a member of Europe - it is that annoying blob on the edge of the map) is probably due to the different disc formats.

USA = CD-ROM
Europe = DVD

Just a hunch.

PS. Before all the UK posters flame me for the first sentence - I am one of you - it's a joke.

EDIT

Oops gave my location away (if I'm telling the truth!)

I don't believe it! It's now 20th of October and amazon.co.uk STILL (at this point anyway), have 21st as thier release date.

I cancelled my pre-order at Amazon. They keep claiming they would send it tomorrow, but they wont confirm it. I think it's a cheap trick; get people to preorder on false release dates.

I called play.com and they were quite certain I would get the game in holland on Oct 28th. So I am ordering from there instead.

:mad: Amazon have just changed the date to 4th Nov.

I hate amazon for lying to me.:mad:

My conversation with an employee from Gameplay:

Please wait a moment. You are being connected to an available operator. You are number 1 in the queue and the average wait time is 0 minutes 29 seconds
You are now chatting with 'Adam'

Adam: Hi, how can I help?
Janos: Hi there, apparently Civilization IV will be delayed in Europe by 1 week to November 4th, myself and others are concerned that this would include the UK and that the game won't come out on the 28th. Can you confirm that the game is still coming out on the 28th or have you heard anything regarding a changing release date?
Adam: still set for the 28th October as far as we are aware, if there are any changes we'll update the product page for the game.
Janos: It went Gold yesterday, by the way, forgot to add
Janos: Okay, that's fine then. Thanks for the help!

They aren't aware of any changes to UK release date, but will update the site if they do. Fingers crossed it's still 28th!

It seems like everytime we get possibly good news we get possibly bad news. Example being confirmation of amazon's change of date and Janos' communication to gameplay. The worst part I think is the uncertainty :( I hope gameplay is right tho!

I wonder why Europe gets DVDs and the US cd-roms? I mean, I prefer a DVD, it's good, but I don't understand why they don't do that in the States ..

Oddly enough, my order still says "Dispatch estimate: 19 Oct 2005, Delivery estimate: 21 Oct 2005 - 25 Oct 2005".

I wrote them an email, lets see what they have to say (If they even bother).

I have also had civ IV pre-ordered since the start of october from Amazon.

Although they have changed the release date on the site, my order tracking info still says it'll be sent on 20-21st oct!

Guess there's a lesson for everyone who pre-ordered from amazon here...

Shame, I had even cancelled other plans for this weekend so I could play, next time, i'm gonna check the actual release date, and not just accept amazon's..

I contacted Amazon, and they did say that there was a mix-up with the dates, and as compensation they removed the first class shipping charge from my order!

Maybe they are worried about all those lawsuits from people who only have CD-ROMs :rolleyes:
