OK - This is odd - anyone know the correct UK date ?

Amazon.co.uk - 21st October
gameplay.co.uk - 28th October
game.uk.com - 4th November

Maybe we should start a sweep stake ...

Crikey! I never noticed that before! I Really hope Amazon has it correct...even though I ordered from gameplay. Any ideas which one is correct?

There is no correct date until it's actually released. All dates mentioned before the release are estimates at best. Considering the fact that take2.co.uk doesn't even mention the whole game of Civ4 on its website yet ... ...

In this thread Janos stated that it's his experience that GamePlay.co.uk usually delivers to your door on the day that they advertise. So based on that testimony, 28 Oct is the best guess.

And sorry, Mikeytikey, experience is that Amazon.co.uk is notoriously bad at giving estimates. They have a policy of putting an unrealistically early date in the hope people buy through them. If the release in US is 24/25 Oct, you don't think it's before that date in UK from a US supplier, do you?

From past experience its Gameplay (and Sendit.com have 28th too) ...

But here's hoping :) Be nice to have it for the Weekend (Makes a change for the UK friday rather Monday game release day to work in our favour) ...

Perhaps the UK distribs want to beat the copies that they know will be all over the net like an hour after It's US release ...

Well - I have a preorder at Both :) .... (I can always give my wife the extra copy) ....

Awww I thought gameplay would be correct (They very good only ever had one problem with them ever). Just wishful thinking amazon would be  Least the 28th will be a friday so have the weekend to play, plus gives that friday feelin' a little extra somethin special!

28th? 28th!!?

I can't wait until the 28th, thats a whole extra week. I have been banking on getting the game this Friday, not next :)

Still, its better that Civ3 which was 2 months after the American release

I'd place £20 on 28th October.

In Britain new games come out on Fridays, so it should be the 28th of October CivIV hits the shops :)

The 21st is also a friday ... (Amazon currently say expected ship date 18th ... Like tommorow .... :p

Bet it doesnt though.

Amazon pre-order, what a joke, haven't made that mistake this time around :)

Amazon regularly makes "mistakes" like this. Although I do have an Amazon pre-order (though in my defense the other sites don't sell Miike Takashi DVD's, Jazz CD's and books on Japanese history ;) )

I'm banking on the 28th, taking the day off to pick up a copy at 9am, then locking windows and doors for 72 hours. I did send Amazon Uk a sarcastic email today with reference to their 21st October release date, but they still insist on the 21st, as if!!

My money is on Game and the 4th nov unless someone like virgin slips up and starts selling it early which means we might be able to get it a few days early ( i am talking wednesday before the friday release).

Though i have had 2 thoughts though.

1. Why is there a release date of 25th oct when no games in the uk are ever released mid week. They are usually released on friday (unless virgin mess up release it early then pay the fine).

2. Is there a Game & Microsoft conspiracy seeing that Age of Empires 3 is due out the same day (4th november) tqo go head to head with Civilization 4.

1. Because that is an unofficial US release date - nothing has been "confirmed" by Firaxis yet.

2. There isn't, as far as anyone is aware Civilization IV is coming out on the 25th October in the States, and 28th in the UK. All we need now is confirmation from the developers, which i feel will come near the end of this week.

In regards to the gameplay release date. (I showed them the two conflicting dates). I e-mailed them today and they actually responded today--

"Hi,

we try to be as up to date as possible and are sent release list from publishers every week. So this date should be accurate.

Best Regards

Gameplay"--

I'd say thats fairly convincing. I hope they update thier pages as soon as they get word from publishers if it is for any reason delayed. (Which I defintely hope it's not!)

I work in WHSmiths, and the release date they've got is the 21st. My money is on this slightly earlier release

EDIT: Also wikipedia states the Euro release date as the 21st, so it must be true ;)

My local Game store tells me 28th October. Different from their website. I haven't pre-ordered, so my plan is to buy in town on day of release.

I hope so!
