The North

Notes
Well, we not only survived another 10 turns but we're nearly in a position to make a strike for the Iron :)

Having Horsemen will improve our position no end. Although they will often lose they have the major benefits of being cheap and able to retreat.

The majority of our Workers are in Out Portugal - I was starting to bring them back to our core to repair some of the coastal damage. There are 3 native Workers in Nina for when we raze Harran.

There are Longbows, Spears and Horse en-route to the North. I think as soon as they arrive we should make an effort to raze Harran and settle on the Iron. Backfill with another town W or SW of the ruins of Harran. This gives us a reasonably safe route to the Iron.

Nineveh & Ashur are on Uni pre-builds for Banks, Babylon should probably start this turn when the Horse completes.

We don't have a Settler under construction presently. Larsa, which will complete Market this turn, is a good candidate.

The save is > here < Good luck Handy :)

Ted

We're making some progress. :goodjob:

Handy should keep the pedal to the metal, we need to expand now.

Ted left you with a lot of movement points. Especially check the distribution of the armies.

One disturbing thing from the save: A lot of those Cavalry were Spanish. I think once we secure the iron, Izzy is due for a pillaging run. So if Handy would be so kind as to secure us a pike army to do so, I'd be much obliged.

If/when we attack Tyrana, I think we can keep it. It fits our settlement pattern, and saves us a settler. We are crushing the AI on our continent in culture so I don't fear a flip. Would be a good source of workers so we can let those cities jungle cities grow.

We're not dead yet, but ask me again when we see Tanks/Marines. :p

Good work Ted. We may yet have knights. Who would have thunk it? Are we planning on keeping Harran? or settle directly on the iron? Or both?

Banking will be coming in soon too. That should really help. I suspect we will in fact be fighting tanks with knights and such. If we can bombard enough we might still be able to handle it. Marines are a scarier prospect in my book.

I think me might be better off razing Harran, settling on the Iron then settling on the hill W or SW of Harran's ruins :D

Marines would be game over (unless we get the Iron) as would Bombers :(

I still don't think we can win but it's an interesting challenge nonetheless.

Ted

Things look pretty quiet on the inherited turn. I think we can remove Harran right away. I would use a spear army to cover the assault and send all but a few Tebuchets (so attack on the next turn). Bombarding the Muskets down in HP would allow the armies to attack twice and not lose too many HP.

Handy seems to be missing in action. My theory is he is currently engaged in a life and death struggle with Killer wallabees armed only with a pitchfork and knife (err.. that is Handy has the pitchfork and knife - the wallabies have rotating fangs). I have been wrong before, so take this with a grain of salt.

I think I will start playing now.

Preturn: I set up the assault on Harran for next turn. I also decide to rush a Settler to get the iron as quick as possible.

IBT: A few units show up.

1505 AD: I attack and Keep Harran, mostly to keep extend our borders. Will probably abandon when we can build the iron. Banking in 2.

IBT: A lot of units show up. Our army is bombarded by boats.

1510 AD: I attack all I can. A cav and knight I don't have enough firepower to injure.

IBT: More units enter our borders.

1515 AD: Our borders are mostly clear now, but most squares just outside our borders are occupied.

IBT: We get banking and start Chemistry. 9 chinese show up including 6 crusaders.

1520 AD: Settler arrives in Harran. Hopefully will move onto the iron next turn and settle the turn after that. I switch our main 3 cities to banks.
Lots of bombardment to do... 3 Horse fail to kill a Cavalry.

IBT: Heavy assault

1525 AD: I move army and settler to iron.

IBT: Huge stack of Portuguese Rifles and MDI shows up. Ack!

1530 AD: Well we have the iron and I clear the road and switch whatever builds I can to Knight or Pikes (mostly Knights). I upgrade 2 spear to pike. I am trying to decide if the towns will all hold until next turn... I am going to try to put a bunch of troops in Harran. Hopefully with that and the spear army, it will hold.

IBT: Real trouble. Harran didn't fall... it is guarded by a single longbow with 1 hp. So we lost a bunch of troops and a spear army. Not only that but now Portugal is sending Infantry. I can abandon Harran, but that puts a break in our connection.

1535 AD: My horsemen are doing really badly. Two horse lose agains a 1 hp Pike. This is not good. I change Ashur to a knight from a Bank even though it loses 13 shields. The Iron may have been just a little too late...

IBT: Portugal steps back and doesn't attack Harran.

1540 AD: Our last horse dies attacking a 2 hp MDI and we have no more. Attack strength of 2 just doesn't cut it anymore it seems. We have lost enough units that we are actually bringing in cash again. I am still holding on albeit barely.

We are now facing Infantry, rifles, and now guerillas from the other continent.

IBT: Everything holds.

1545 AD: Not able to clear out all the units nearby. Moving up the few knights we have.

IBT: Portugal has decided to come back at us with their rifles. 9 more infantry show up from Arabia (12 total).

1550 AD: Kill what I can.

Notes:
We were definitely teetering on the edge of collapse on this turn, but managed to pull through ok. We also lost a spear army which is not good. 5-10 turns later getting the iron and we would have been in real trouble trying to defend off those infantry with longbow, spear and horses - and would have had a good chance to have lost the game. Good work to all at getting us to this point.

I got a decent number of Elite victories but no leaders. A leader for a Knight army would really, really help us now. In fact how quickly we get the next 2 leaders may determine if we win or lose.

We are actually earning gold - enough to upgrade a spear every turn (32 gpt). This is due to unit loss and our first bank coming on line (we are spending 99 gpt now)

Our current units are 11 worker, 51 Warrior , 38 Spear, 1 Horse, 5 Pike, 12 Longbow, 3 Knights, 1 galley, 4 Army, 3 Bowmen(in the bowman army), 30 Trebuchets.

We have an average Military compared with Spain and are Strong compared to the Hittites. If only everyone else would leave us alone...

Our better units are just starting to arrive at the front. Our capitol is building a knight every 4 turns now which we definitely need. Nineveh will complete its bank next turn.

Remember to cycle injured units on the back lines. I did it for the preturn. If you don't you will lose production in our key cities.

You may want to consider spending money on rushing walls in our border towns (now that we have an income) such as Harran.

Here is the zone of conflict:

The Save

Barbslinger, Since we don't know how long Handy will be gone for, go ahead and post your I got if you can play soon. If Handy checks in first then he can play

Got home late from work and had to run errands and a late dinner with the little lady. I'll have to play tomorrow. I woke up in the middle of the night remembering this and had to say something.
Again, I'm sorry.

NP Barbslinger. Thats why you get 2 days (and a third on request) to play :)

Its funny; I keep thinking this game is dead, but every time we poke at it with a stick it wiggles.

I hope everything is ok with Handy. Things that make you disappear suddenly are often not good.
