I change several builds. A warrior will be useless to keep the town alive, but a library will get us closer to domination.

I merge one natural worker, and hope to merge 3 more. I kill growth in some corrupt towns for tax collectors and we are at even gold for the moment.


960 AD
Edessa is formed and that solves the negative cash flow problems for this round.

I just noticed something real depressing. There is a Russian guerilla visible. Russia has gotten as far as Replaceable Parts.


970 AD
Some things haven't changed since the last round. Bombing the Russia cities still pays as I caught a galleon in port.

I bring good news in that Medina is burned to the ground. It only cost 1 AC. 7 workers are heading home. This will let us merge more native workers to get unit cost under control.
(IT) Our people want to build the heroic epic. Barring a leader rushed one; I doubt we will build it.


980 AD
(IT) We finally complete a tech and get currency. Next up is Code of Laws due to being cheaper.


990 AD
Operation worker steal strikes again as a warrior snags 2 from Russia.

Russia won't take the hint as I sink yet another ship in port.


1000 AD
I am surprised that worker stealer manages to get back on a boat.

Taormina is formed to continue to claim land.

Worker Stealer strikes again and gets 1 more worker from Russia.

I have the honor of toasting a second large city from Arabia. Najran is burned to the ground.



Summary:
This may come down to resources. If Russia has oil we are dead, as their bombers will eliminate our dromon stacks. It is clear they lack rubber.

Right now the biggest danger is the amount of culture coming from Moscow. We are in a race of domination vs. 20K loss. Keep pushing libraries, and get settlers out to claim every gap out there.


Culture must be the #1 priority. The best chance to win in domination. We still need 221 tiles to domination. Ever library will really help. When Ancyra expands it borders we gain another 8 tiles. It doesn't sound like much, but when a lot of cities can do this it will add up. There are still a handful of spots that will justify a new city.


The below is a picture from the front. You should be able to heal in white box and march to Baghdad. The key is to not risk "army immunity", and to fight very little troops heading there. I would continue to tear up the terrain, as the Arabs don't appear to be fixing it. There are more dromons heading there along with more AC. There is still a question if we want to build some swords to drop off when next to the city.

The economy is still tight and must be watched closely. That is why I am building wealth in our remote corrupt cities. I really doubt we will make it up to navigation to connect these remote cities.
 
Great work LK. I would try and burn all the large arab cities once. The refounded ones will not have culture or markets right away. This lack both will make reconquest easy. The lack of markets and population will cause the stacks of arabs to slowly dwindle, as I suspect they are doing now. Next army has to go to Russia, and pillage the interior.
In my turns russia was a republic, and we just may be able to knock them out of it. If we keep them at 3 cities, and can starve a few down, plus keep stealing their workers, we will be golden.
BTW the warriors for worker steals was the reason I was building some of the warriors.
Rather than swords, I would build ponies for the arab conquest. If we can get 25 defenders at 2 defense, I would build a town on arab Isle, and rush some walls and play defense. I think we can win without claiming anything on the russian isle.

The last two rounds were pound on the Arabs. In addition, I pushed libraries big time to get more tiles. I am irrigating the corrupt island south of us to get more specialists. They are the only reason tech move forward. 10% science is a joke, and that was an improvement from the start of my turn. I would love to have a few pikeman to dump into Arabia to eat up troops faster.
 
Add one more of really increasing Dromons by Russia. If they get ironclads we will start taking losses...

1180 - Moscow is gaining 87 cpt. So we have 108 turns to do something.

Get him on a boat headed towards a city.
1190 – Found Bugsa. Kill another four Arabs and collect two more slaves. Belisarius forms an army.
1210 – Steal two more Russian slaves. Sink a Russian galleon.
1220 – Found Iconium.
1230 – Capture another Arab settler pair. Set up to attack Anjar.
1240 – Every Arab is trying to catch our slaves.

1250 - @ Anjar – Bombard and kill the three defenders. I decide to keep the city for a turn or two.

Here is the situation:

There is a settler party just south of Mecca, and one north. Try not to let them get into settling position. By bombing the spears guarding them, the settlers don’t move.

We need to pillage everything we can. The Arabs don’t have any workers so we can hurt them.

Most of the Arabian forces are south of Mecca. That leaves their cities weak. Fustat and Khurasan can probably be taken with a rotation counter clockwise around the island.
Abandon Anjar in a turn or two.

We’re presently at 51% of land area, 47% of pop. As soon as we knock the Arabs back far enough, we can start settling their lands.

IT IS IMPERITIVE TO KEEP THE ARABS FROM RESETTLING.

We don’t want to have to keep razing cities in the same locations. Use the armies to keep the settlers under control.

Once we raze the two eastern Arab cities, we’ll see their troops start disappearing as their support costs go through the roof. Then we just need to settle the Arab lands and we can win. Remember we have less than 100 turns to a Russian 20K victory.

Which leader shall move the Byzantines to the brink of victory?

Another 8% of the land is nice for 10 turns. We want to keep sending out settlers as long as there is any spot got for few more tiles.

All the libraries I pushed during my turns will complete and expanding borders over the next few rounds. Will it be enough? Only time will tell, but we should keep pounding Arabia and keep shipping our new AC over. It is a pity the arabs don't have a mountain tile to stick a few pikes on to let us burn some archer stacks...
 
This sounds like a nice challange, I got, will play 10 and post results in a while.

117+9 tiles needed for domination (Anjar abandoned). If we settle 6 new citys in neutral territory and get some cultural expansions we have 78 more tiles, so we still need 48 more tiles. This means some foreign land is needed, Arabia seems like the only possible candidate.

The plan is to wipe out Arabia and poof the stacks, keep the last Arab city and settle 3 or 4 citys in former Arabia.

Since a lot of units moved into Fustat I decide to hold off the attack for a turn, I keep one wounded AC out of reach outside Anjar to attract Arabs and if I dont bombard Fustat this turn they will hopefully move the extra troops out to try to get to our wounded AC. Use second Army to pillage some tiles and return back to forest outside Fustat. Bombard Arab settler stack, they have two settlers in this stack.
Bombard russian citys, no ships, move dromons to block coastal tiles.

I thought quite some time if we should continue to reasearch and on what if we do. We can probably take out Arabia with ACs supported by dromons if we manoever their stacks wisely, but if we have some bad RNG we might loose to many troops. I decided to play it safe and to reaserch chivalry in 14 turns with our scientist, we are still making around 40 gpt and that
will be enough to rush needed settlers and culture, I have started to build horsemen for upgrade in Constantinople and Ceasarea.

Bombard and redline 5 spears in Damascus, attack with ACs and raze it without losses, we gain 3 slaves.
Evacuate all troops and slaves from Bursa area to get rid of the arabs in this area, land an AC on furry beach to try to draw the arabs away from Bursa area and from the settler.
Move healed army north to try to capture settler, other army heals.
Move dromons and troops in dromons towards Bursa.
Mecka has shrinked again to size 10, are they building workers?

Future plans:
I think we should raze Bursa next, catch the Arab settler and any more they tries to build, move the armies and all troops besides from two dromons and an AC or a warrior in each (theese can be used to manoever the remaning Arab stacks and keep them away from Mecka) to Mecka. When this is done bombard and capture Mecka. :)

I have one settler in place that will claim 6 more tiles. There is a warrior in Samosata that could follow the dromon back to capture any new russian workers.

It might be useful to sell off the libraries that wont expand any more in the near future.

So who is next?
 
I took a look at the latest game. We are now at 59% territory and just 53% population.
Moscow is now at 12,108 in culture. :eek:

However, we can't get another 48 tiles from the few gaps left. We will need to kill Arabia to win this game. We also need to get the population numbers up. The new player will need to review all the junk towns to determine if we can fire some scientist and gain another pop point.

It looks like population may stop us from winning. If we stop research we could build aqueducts at home and raise the luxury tax high enough to get the core up to size 12 cities. I don't see how else we can get the needed population numbers.
