HOF IV Update Discussion Thread

I have no interest in a Deity/Space gauntlet, but have fun with it.

Just think about it....use max opponents...each one starts with 2 cities . You could have 30+ cities by 1 AD. AND, Deity means the AI you leave alive can actually contribute to your research. AND, Deity AI have much more money to give you, more workers to steal, etc.

And on Epic speed, it makes it feel more like Immortal when it comes to wars. You'd be great at these settings.

To be frank, this gauntlet strikes me as eerily similar to the legendary GM 137 gauntlet not long ago. Not necessarily a bad thing, as it should prove to be an interesting game with maybe many competitors, but they are similar nonetheless.

Deity is very brutal for me, I'm more at "home" at Immortal, and have never in my life played a game on Epic (first ever game on Quick a little while ago, also a space game, but at settler (Challenge series)).

I'm feeling an approaching Civ burnout, so not sure it's a good idea to try out this. Also because I know there is zero chance to beat the best players.

Omg. A Huge Rainforest map has a population-value of 3500  . That is abou 50% more than Terra has and Huge Terra is already a monster and that without the new world. I played a Conquest game on Huge Terra once (Replay #8) , this map seems off the charts in terms of the possible number of cities and the corresponding Workers that are necessary. This map might oppose several unique challenges, like if you start in the lower right corner and there are only few Floodplains, how are you going to get Aluminium when the only sources are in the upper left corner of the map :eek2: . Getting a source of Horses might be the biggest challenge of all, I'm not sure if warfare with Immortals is even viable though because of all the Jungles and the next neighbouring AI might be as near as the farthest away AI on a Pangaea map :rotfl: :hammer2: :faint: . Maybe it'd be best to play Montezuma because of WM2-Jaguars that only require a Barracks. Idk if non-FIN leaders are viable at all, but I could imagine Izzy or Peter to be very good aswell because of their UU's and traits, maybe the player is forced to REX peacefully and the earliest wars are viable with Cuirrassiers because the AI will have removed many Jungles 'til then even allowing a unit to move two tiles... I wonder how many AIs even can be met until Alpha or 1 AD and assume that the player won't even have a chance to get the Oracle because it'll be gone at 2000BC in 98% of all cases because of 18 opponents.

Looks like the thread has been hidden for the time being, until a decision is made, but iirc, we had to be Persia. Or did I just imagine that?

As long as one can get a couple AIs without metal, Immortals would be good though. Not as mobile as usual given all the jungle, but it's still a capable offensive unit, until you face spears. Bonus on both archers and axes is very nice indeed.

After havnig seen the map I'm not sure who's even willing to compete except kovacsflo. I still remember GM-137 very well with turns lasting more than an hour and sometimes even needing an hour to find back into the state at which one left the game one day earlier  .

I'm not sure if this Gauntlet is actually about CIV skills or if it's more about who's able to deal with the insanity that will be caused by playing this map  .

Seriously, this Gauntlet is more like the Challenge series only that it's one game that could be played over the same time without any problems. Maybe you will want to make the game a time-game and Marathon aswell, then the winner will be the only person still playing CIV at the end... :crazyeye: :scared: :joke: .

You should look at land not pop. Seems to be 4300-4400 for rainforest and about 3700-3800 for low sealevel Terra. However, I think the terra map can fit more cities. Coastal cities eat up less land than inland rainforest cities.

High population value comes from map being all green.

Thx :) .

Actually I already started to play, too bad that this gauntlet is not confirmed yet. I like this map because if really offers a different strategy, but it is not actually a crippled map like oasis or Boreal (ok, boreal is good for cultural, but not for anything else).

I am playing a peaceful game, we will see if it is competitive or not. This time I will (actually I am about to) leave behind my comrades and see what Mining Inc can offer.

The thing is that in this map it is easier to get luxury resources than food ones. It is very important to get either corn or wheat. Or both, if you are lucky enough.

That was our thought as well so we have decided to change it - apologies to anyone who has started already

We're going to run one Gauntlet for 3 months beacuse it's a Score / Deity / Huge with our good friend Huayna Capac!

We know not everyone can play Huge / Deity so we will be running other Majors in parallel - the first one is an OCC Time game on Prince - should be very different!!

** New Gauntlets Starting **

G-Major 144 - Score, Deity, Ancient, Huge, Marathon, - High Score Wins!

G-Major 145 - Time, Prince, Ancient, Small, Normal, Hemispheres, - High Score Wins! (check options)

Too similar... Next time I am at a restaurant, I will refuse the fish and chips as it is too similar to the chicken pie I was served 12 years ago.

What pisses me off is that there hasn't been any huge or large deity major which is NOT marathon for July 2013:

The following are the results of G-Major 117. The settings are at the bottom of the page:

Omg. , the Gauntlet for the new highest score in CIV worldwide, probably 7M or maybe even more :goodjob: .

If this doesn't get players like WastinTime to play then Idk what would. I hope very much, that you all are going to compete in this Gauntlet, this is not only a Major Deity Gauntlet, the fastest Space Race and the highest Highscore worldwide are the two games that give the most fame imo. because there is no game that I could imagine to be more challenging because. The bar is already high and needs to be raised, if this develops like GM-137 then the "worst" game will start where I left in 2012. The threads towards my 3.6M score game and WastinTime's 4.8M score game gathered almost 100k of clicks 'til now, this might become the heaviest tournement that ever existed regarding CIV4. I hope that you'll announce this properly, users that will not follow and players that will not compete will lose out on something. :king:
