When I have a save game that is more than 2mb, do I submit a .zip file through the normal submission screen, or do I need to email it separately?

and

What to do if the game will not load a session save? I was playing a large map, on turn 933, and it took three tries to get my last session save to load without a CTD. Since I still need a victory on a huge map for the "Go The Distance" category, I expect that this issue will most certainly arise at some point, especially since I want to take the game the full 1500 turns.

We can take save files larger the 2MB for Civ5. A lot are these days. Just submit like normal. (We got the one you e=mailed. Added it to your submission.

Try, try again? :mischief: Seriously, do the best you can and send us an e-mail about it when you submit it.

When you feel that the game isn't going to last, play it in strategic mode or tune down the graphics. That helped me last time.

Shut down all programs that are not needed (browser etc).
Set all graphics to the lowest possible within CiV.
Then load a random other save first (not the one that causes a crash).
From within that game load the game that used to crash.
That should increase your chances a lot, but still may take several attempts (or still not work, depends on your PC too).

Thanks Peets and FeiLing!!! I'm also going to delete all non-essential workers and military units, and put all cities in either "research" or "wealth" mode before turn 900. I also have a strong suspicion that automated workers on busy maps cause CTDs on my machine.

Indeed, workers are hell! Delete them all :p

About saving/loading

I usually don't save my game and load from the autosave menu straigh away. Will that work for HoF or must I use a single save game?

We recommend that you make a manual save at the end of a play session and use that save to resume. Using autosaves can work but you have to be careful. Don't forget the required saves for each submission.

Autosaves taken at the beginning of each turn are not at all suitable for resuming a game. They will often be missing irrevokable moves. Save manually and save often; that's the only "safe" way to play in my opinion.

Question:
What is the difference between the Hall of Fame and the Veni Vidi Vici section? More specific: I know what the VVV section is. To what extent is the HoF different from the VVV section? And can you 'just submit' any game you want, compatible with the rules, and it will appear in the right section?

My guess:
The HoF = games submitted for the Gauntlets, Veni Vidi Vici = any game submitted (including the Gauntlet submissions).

Am I right? Am I right am I right? <= CLICK! ;)

The HoF is just a listing of any game that meets the rules of the Hall of Fame, it can be for gauntlets or just a general submission.

VVV is a mini-competition within the HoF for people to master all the different combinations of difficulty, speed, leader, map etc. All games submitted to the HoF can contribute towards achieving VVV.

Then why are the number of medals for the top players different here (http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ5/index.php?show=summ&pubID=-1&dtSc=0) and here (http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ5/mastery.php?show=overall&pubID=-1)?

Actually, the first is the HOF Summary for Fastest Finish 'Dates'. There is a dropdown to change it to see the Summary for High 'Scores'.

The second is from the VVV which counts both Date and Score Metals.

Ah yes indeed, I was wrong, sorry

Hi All,

I am new in Civ5 HOF, so I have some questions before I start a HOF game:
- I have God and Kings, may I use it?
- I have all DLCs (Ancient Wonders, new nations), which may I use it? If some disallowed, how may I change the settings? I don't want to delete/rename anything in my Civ5 folder.
- How can I determine when will I be at the 1/3 at my game and make a save?

Thanks in advance!

HoF games are still vanilla only. Though the guys are working hard on making it ready for G&Ks games too.

You can't use DLCs in these games. That means you need to disable at the very least the Ancient Wonder DLC everytime you start up CiV in the DLC options right after the game starts up. Note that no enemy may be a DLC civ, so you need to either always chose vanilla civs as enemies (not random) or disable the other DLC (except Mongolia) as well for these games.

Set autosaves to every turn (=1) and keep a lot of them (don't know what s max... 800? 999?). Whenever you roll a map, do a manual save. When you won select "just one more turn" and save manually again. Then submit these 2 saves plus 2 of the autosaves (from roughly 1/3 and 2/3 of the ending turn).

Hey Titantoma,

Welcome to HoF!
When you start the game you see a menu with DLC.
There you can disable everything. The only DLC that is allowed is Genghis Khan.
So all the other DLC and at the moment G&K are not allowed.
Soon G&K will be allowed.
You have to change your autosave to 1 turn so that it saves each turn.
When you finish a game for example at turn 175 you then have to send a save game around turn 58 (1/3) - around turn 116 (2/3) - your start and end game file.
You may use your autosaves.
I hope this helps if not keep asking :)
