Hamburgers all the day. But I will eat a hot dog in a ball park or if there arent any burgers. The advantage of the hot dog is that its easier to carry around (ex. you can eat it while walking, unlike a burger, well, thats my opinion.)
I have to say, I used to like Hot Dogs more (not to mention that they are a helluva lot easier to cook on your own), but I chose Hamburgers because it's just a more hearty, if less healthy meal.

It is clear that the quality of the sausage will determine the quality of the hotdog. That being said I suspect that most who voted for burgers have never experienced a hotdog with a sausage other than wiener or frankfurter sausages (although there are some high quality sausages in these categories most of them are crap).
In Vienna you can get at a Würstelstand (small fast food stands) at least 7 different sausages, grilled or boiled. There is much more variety in taste than for burgers plus you are safe from spreading mustard/ sauce on your clothes when eating.
Imo, nothing beats a grilled Käsekrainer in a bun with hot mustard. Second place goes to a Bosna (Klobasse + kraut + onion + curry powder in a bun).
And, imo, döner kebap outclasses your typical McDonalds BicMac
