Hello,

right some minutes ago, steam updated my Version to Hotfix 1.0.1.167

The first game after patch froze after meeting the first AI Civilization (when the leaderhead-screen is loaded). My second Display still worked, just on my main screen, the frozen CiV blocked windows.

After restart and launching CiV either via Steam or via Shortcut, the game starts loading and returns around 15secs after start to the steam window without any message.

I found out, that the game creates its cache-files and some seconds later, the app is closed.

My system requirements are over-fulfiled (AMD PhenomIII 1075, 4GB Ram and ATI Radeon HD6950 with 2GB Graphic RAM. Anyway, before the Hotfix there was no such behavior.

Since the crash, I couldn't open Civ5 anymore, all attempts failed...

I experienced the same problem. After the Steam update, Civ 5 fails to load from my dedicated dx9 shortcut. Gives an error message:

"The procedure entry point ?getRandLogging@CvGlobals@@QAEAA_NXZ could not be located in the dynamic link library CvGameCoreDLLFinalRelease.dll."

I am running Windows 7 64 bit on a laptop.

Thanks for any help.

Same thing here, error message and everything. Installed via Steam at my alternate computer, started up fine and played for a few minutes. Left, came back and now won't do anything past the DirectX choice screen. Looks like we need a bugfix for the bugfix.

Anyway, me (and others) have a fatal Problem:

This game is for the moment absolutely useless, because it simply doesn't work anymore.

Just a question as posted in 2K-Forum:
Is there a possibility to uninstall the last Hotfix?

By the way: I get no error message, just the screen turns black and 20 secs later I see the steam window again, the game window disappears silently.

Since 3 days, no effort was useful to be able to play...

Update: I followed some advice from the 2k forums post about trying to run Civ5 from Steam's pull-up menu once pinned to the taskbar. The post was for a Win7 build, but the computer I had it on ( at work) was Vista. Lo and Behold, it worked. However, it still won't help on my Win7 home computer.

Bummer

hi guys,

just wanted to say the same thing happened to me. been playing for 3 months no problem, occasional crashes while loading or smth, but thats it. i cant even START THE GAME anymore. everytime i try it loads for 2 seconds then goes back to the steam window. this is really bad. i dont understand how this can happen, and it hasnt been fixed in like 4 days. not trying to be a flamer but i remained loyal to civ 5 even though there were many reasons to give up. i persisted and enjoyed the game for the last 3 months. but now what? no official word, no nothing, might be the last straw for me. ill check again in a bit, but otherwise, sorry firaxis, but this is bs.

These are not Firaxis official forums, as far as I know. And due to the nature of Steam, there is no way to uninstall a game update, however failed it might be. Sometimes, I begin to appreciate the validation process of game updates on the Live. Developers have to pay for it hence they have to be careful to ship something which actually works. Or they can just not update at all.

I got the game to work in DirectX 10-11. But the game is still buggy as hell. I love the game and will put up with the bugs, but hope a lot of the issues are addressed quickly.

update. Finally got it to work properly (at least work at all). Rolled back my drivers (NVidia 9500 GT) to their October 2010 version, v258. Only got to play for a few hours, but all seems to be good on DirectX 9 run.
