who knows cool special keys, hotkeys that make your life easier in civ.3.
I dont like to use the mouse that much:mad:

when you have 20 units in the same place. Is there a way to move them together, like group, to another place with a key?

'apple'+'J' will move them as a bunch

I personnaly use a lot of F1 to F8 key to access the adviser's windows. I prefer the keyboard to.

F7 gets you to the Wonders window (good for keeping tabs on who's building what and where)

F11 to the facts and figures - including top 5 cities

Forget what F8 - F10 do (one is the Palace view, another is Spaceship view)

'Apple'+'P' to automate workers to clean up pollution only

There are lots more... (I'm doing thsi from memory as I'm at work...)

If you go to the CivIII reference section (from the CFC homepage), one of the very first posts is "Civilization III Complete Reference File". It is a great file, containing keyboard shortcuts as well as the tech tree, including what new buildings/units/wonders are available with each tech, info on units, resources and wonders. I suggest checking it out. There are some other good reference files there, too.

Hi, everyone.

I might see this question some time ago. But I do not know the answer.
I use powerbook G4 and my F7 key does not work in Civ III to see Wonders. It is designated to do some monitor thing I think.

Actually, from F1 through F7 on powerbook G4 do not work as defined in civ III. Advisors are fine without Function keys, but not F7.

Is there another way to see Wonders of the world?

On a Powerbook the function keys can do multiple operations, bu t you can make them behave like standard function keys somewhere, I think, maybe with the help of a modifier key. Look in your Keyboards control panel, or maybe a powerbook-specific control panel (for control panel in OS 9 read System Preferences in OS X).

Just tried it on my PB G4 500:

Pressing the <fn> key (lower left corner) together with F1 - F11 works. MacOS X 10.2.8.

Well done. Tao, I knew there was a way, but was too darn lazy to grab my daughter's Pismo and try it. If you want to be able to do it without using the Fn key, in OS 9 I'm pretty sure there was a system preference to reverse it, so that F1-F12 operations need no Fn key and the specials do. I'd be surprised if this got lost in OS X.

Double Command is a free Mac OS X utility that will allow you to unswap the function key settings on powerbooks. It's goofy (you need to be able to add) on how it's setup but it's a config file that has a numeric value. F1-F11 can be used without Fn key then...

greetings. yes, the complete civ 3 reference file is great. but there are some shortcuts missing. a pc user was trying to duplicate something on my machine and accidently made the civ window smaller allowing me to do other things on my computer besides play civ. as if i ever want to. the keyboard shortcuts that look to be for the mac (second one down on reference page) is a broken link. anyone know where complete mac info is? if not, anyone know how to minimize the civ window on a mac? thanks in advance.

Hide can only be done in Windowed Mode currently, due to a bug in Full Screen Mode. In Window mode you can hide Civ3 using Command-H. I don't know a way to minimize in either mode. Command-M doesn't work here.

Note that the high function keys still operate Exposé in Window mode, so the F9, F10, F11 shortcuts require Command-F9/10/11 in Civ3.

You get to Windowed mode by holding Command down while launching Civ3 Complete. This will bring up a dialog box where you can select the display mode, resolution, your screen, and some other options.

Aspyr are in the throes of producing a patch that will make Command-H work in Full Screen mode.

Hope this helps.

thank you alan! ctrl-h is what i saw. but as far as i know i am not in windows mode. when i hold down the apple key and double-click on civ it brings us a dialog box that asks me select the refresh rate and resolution. the box also has some quartz questions but it doesn't ask me about a mode. also, expose doesn't work with either the apple or ctrl keys for me. i am playing 1.29 beta 2. any thoughts?

Sorry, I was talking Civ Complete.

If you are in 1.29b2 then you can't get Window mode and Exposé wont do anything for you as Civ3 takes over your whole display system. Cmd-H does work in 1.29b2, however, and Cmd-P also pauses the game in the same way.
