Hi!

I just discovered something has been sending junkmail from my hotmail account to random people whom I luckily don't know.
I rarely use that account, and hadn't looked at "sent" folder for ages - only noticed because I just received some "delivery failed" notifications.

Any advice how to kill that bugger or where to look for it? I have accessed this account through multiple computers over past months...

Thanks!

Do a virus/spyware scan before changing password. If its keylogger or something it may grab the new one.

Are you sure you account has really been hijacked? Spammers can spoof aa E-mail adress. In that case they themself send the spam messages but it will appear that you send them.

I have had some spam that has "come from" my regular email account, but none of it was sent by me. They do that to think you have sent it, so you will look at the email and thus get a virus from it.

Its possible that any one the computers you used to log into that Hotmail account has been infected and turned into a Bot that sends out spam using your account.

The cure is simple, run virus and spy-ware scans and then change your Hotmail password and be happy they didn't (truly hijacking your account). Also be sure to check out the password recovery stuff, a smart/more advanced spambot might have made a backdoor so they can regain control of your account.
