How are stealth bombers suppose to travel between continents?

Is it true that unlike normal WW 2 era bombers stealth bombers can't actually be loaded into aircraft carriers? And if so then just how exactly are you suppose to transport stealth bombers from one continent to another? And why isn't the player allowed to load stealth bombers into carriers just like the normal bomber? It doesn't make sense to me.

If true I really hope this doesn't turn out to be a bad design decision that leaves the player's entire stealth bomber fleet entirely useless because it can't be moved from the player's home continent to where it is needed.

Hopefully the map generators will make some Diego-Garcia-sized islands in the major oceans.

I was going to say that they could "rebase," but the manual (for what it's worth...) says "rebasing" has the same range as their attack range (i.e., 8 for a fighter/Zero, 10 for a bomber/B17, 20 for a stealth bomber).

So if the next continent is more than 20 hexes away from your closest city, you're right. You're out of luck. :-(

and you can base them on carriers?

Well then it sure sucks that you cannot support your colonies/conquered areas with stealth bombers that are farther than 20 hexes! away... Needs to be patched!

Most likely an oversight by the Devs. I can't imagine it staying in the game like that for long.
I also think that the rebase range for air units will b double their effective range in the future.

This has always been a "concern" of mine. Shouldn't the rebasing distance be double what the attacking distance, since after the attack they need to fly back? (Unless their kamikaze or doing like that stupid Pearl Harbor movie)

"Realistically" yes, however, Air units can have multiple 'movement' points, so they can possibly do multiple step rebasing. (and 20 hexes is awfully far)

~120x80
(so the greatest possible distance between any 2 points is ~100) [top cornor to bottom middle] because of the wrap around

assuming you have cities on the 'nearest shore' of 2 continents separated by an ocean, I am almost certain you could send a Stealth bomber across.

(on a Huge Earthmap, Greenland city-bases might be necessary for North Atlantic crossing (Quebec<->Ireland might be possible), various Pacific Islands would probably be necessary if you didn't have cities near the Bering strait.

Which seems Very reasonable... even with midair refueling, that is only possible because of airbases somewhat nearby to supply the fuel.

If you can rebase in civs you have an open border, or at least some type of alliance, with as well as friendly/allied city-states it should be fine.

I guess you could build a bomber, put it on a carrier, and upgrade it when it gets where it's going.

I see Iceland being a fought-after air base.

If you can rebase at an allies city, such as a city state, then it wont be that bad. City states will be all around the place, so if you dont have a city on a continent just make friends with a city state, and use that as your foothold on the continent.

@SickFak

When I was a kid I went to an activity camp and whilst I was there 2 Unlimited were No.1 in the charts. Halfway through the week someone started a rumor that they had died in a car crash! We were all a bit upset by it. Luckily it wasnb't true.

On topic, wait for the patch.

If it is an oversight and turns out to be an issue, there will be a mod, and later even a patch. Firaxis changed the stealth destroyer totally in 3.19! So the company has a good history of patching.

But I would't complain before you see it ingame - tomorrow! ;)

I agree, mostly because the manual and game guide seem to be frequently errant and/or out-of-date.

The 'pedia is said to draw data directly from the game files and will pretty much be the authoritative source for this kind of info.
