[Col] How can you get a Ship Of The Line?

How can you get one of these? I have managed to complete a game with the max 126 points, played another game where I turned every city Dutch, in fact I've done everything but these elude me. I hear they have 48 guns and I WANT ONE! What do you have to do for one to come your way?

More to the point, a good strategy is to make all the 'lesser Antilles' English (Martinique, Guadeloupe, Montserrat...) and then keep sinking English ships that travel from city to city.

Once the price on your head is high enough, a 'new warship' will sail from one city to the other. Intercept. Win !

Just make sure to leave immigrant and governor ships alone; they keep the city Wealthy; if it falls to Prosperous or anything less, it won't make Ships of the Line.

Also, the SoTL will only appear as a "New Warship" and usually have a Frigate escort.

in the antilles there should be at least one wealthy city other than spanish and at least one another city same nationality near it. Then you have to sink constantly many merchant, war and hunter ships comin out of it over years to make them annoyed to you. And dont attack govenor and immigrant ships. With luck, only about two times a year a new warship and a escort ship comes out, you sport one and hav to be quick capture it becuz it will sail directly to the near city of same nationality and vanish then never comin out again
and this new warship is the cool SoL Ship!!

I just started by taking down every ship I saw for 10 months, and in November of 1660, a SotL appeared! And I kept it for 27 years. Great ship.

actually, after I sacked Port Royale, and it was poor, the only two SOTL that ive ever seen came out of there, even though it was poor.

sotl are slow but well defended. It's best to sail away from them.

In a recent game, I got the SOTL, just after capturing two French ships right at the beginning of the game. So a big strategy is not really necessary. Just a bit of luck, while attacking non-Spanish ships.
