Last night, I was playing China, in a centuries-long war against the Aztecs. They had conquered Seoul, and I had reconquered and liberated it (though they built Brandenburg gate there:confused:).

Anyway, Seoul had a ton of forests (roaded) that faced the Aztecs. I had a 96 xp artillery hidden behind Seoul, and a mech infantry stationed in front of it to keep it safe.

Now get this...Monty sends a tank THROUGH Seoul, and kills my artillery in one hit.

Seoul wasn't his city, and my mech inf. ZoC should have stopped him.

How did this happen?

Oh, and the next turn, I attacked his weakened tank expecting it to die...it survived with 1 hp, healed and killed my mech.

Simple. You don't have ZoC in city tiles, and because it is a city state, anyone can use their roads etc.

So no cheating.

A bit unlucky though.

Um yes you do.

Additionally, Seoul's at war against aztecs, then therefore ZOC is in effect. That tank didn't have any rights penetrating all the lines of defenses and hitting that artillery.

I've seen many units stopped by ZOC of a city easily. Even when there's no garrison inside.

I should know, I attacked alot of cities and I play on huge maps therefore I say my experience have more of a point than yours xD.

Lets see a screenshot.
Even if I was able to get one, it wouldn't do much good - it would only work with recording material...which I don't have.

unless you actually watched it go through the city, it probably just went around it.

I actually remember gasping at that damn tank as it went THROUGH the stupid city, attacked my arty FROM INSIDE, and then killed him.

The animations will sometimes show units going through places they can't go, but the number of moves to get where the unit is going is accurate.

e.g. a scout is ordered to go to a spot 2 tiles away, and the animation shows it going through a mountain, but you know it had to go through the adjacent hill tile. Or another example, you see ships sometimes going through impassable ice on the animation, though you know it took the coastal tile.

I think what you saw was just another example of this glitch. I don't think the animation is always 100% in accord with the actual pathing.

A couple of questions:
- Was your infantry right next to Seoul, so that when an attack had let to a stalemate, the attacking unit would have ended its turn in Seoul itself? That can never happen, whatever the relationship to Seoul!
- What was actually the relationship between the Aztecs and Seoul? Normally your units can indeed go straight through a city state, no problem, you don't need to be friendly with them either. I'm not sure if it's possible when at war with the city state. Common sense says that shouldn't be possible, but I don't know how well Firaxis have done their job.

I'm sure I too have seen the AI ignore ZOC in some circumstances.
