I have an HP Pavilion a6720y computer, and it has an Expansion Bay for an extra DVD/CD Drive. I have an extra DVD Drive from an old HP I had, but there is a metal "slab" for lack of a better word blocking the space where I slide the drive into place. I don't know how to remove the "slab"! Please help me. (This is common for many other computers with extra CD-ROM/DVD-ROM, Floppy Drive spaces)

Virtual drives might help... google Daemon Tools. I believe you can set up to 4 drives with it.

Oh and this thread belongs in a different subforum

i dont need a virtual drive. im trying to install an actual DVD-ROM drive, you know the thing you stick your disks into, onto my computer. as in, open my computer, remove the peice of metal blocking the expansion bay slot, inserting the drive, connecting all the cables, and then closing my computer back up and using the drive. i have poweriso, so i have virtual drives, only thing is, i want an actual dvd drive.

also, i know it should be in the computer talk forum, but guess what, NOBODY LOOKS AT THAT FORUM!. so i put it in here to get replies. how else am i supposed to resolve my issues without replies? i could call hp, but you have to have a service plan to call them

oh, all right then.

I wouldn't know how to do that. :p

You may want to ask someone who works at a comp store irl or something.

Check your manuals, if you dont have them go to HP's site and download them.

Here is the bit dealing with your particular issue:

2 If you are adding a drive to an empty lower optical drive bay, you must remove the knockout plate from the bay. To do so, insert a flat screwdriver into the knockout plate slot (A) and rotate the screwdriver to break the knockout plate out of the chassis. Discard the knockout plate.

3 Remove the knockout plate on the front cover. To do so, insert a flat screwdriver into the knockout plate slot (B) and rotate the screwdriver to break the knockout plate out of the front cover. Discard the knockout plate.

First, delete everything in your hard drive before you disassemble your computer down to every last nut and screw. Then reassemble your computer with the additional DVD drive on. Easy.

Don't listen me.

Do you meant there's a faceplate? Just open up your case, and tap out the faceplate from behind, in that case. :) If it's under warranty, then you might not be allowed to open your case under the terms of the warranty, however.

THAT'S WHY.....DIY!!!!!!! [party]
