I'm completely frustrated and I'm sure this is the dubest question ever, but... How do I move diagonally? there will be enemies diagonal to me and I can't get to them, or I can't move anywhere because it says I can't move close to an enemy, or there's a town to attack, but I can't figure out how to move diagonally! I'm an idiot.

This is a fairly common problem when starting out.The manual is a little grey here.Numeric keypad.5 is you.

If you encounter a zone of control block, you'll hear a buzz when you try to move to a certain square.Almost every land unit exerts a ZoC and only a few can ignore it.Its an important concept in civ2.

If you can't move a unit onto a square because you've hit an opponent's zone of control, simply move a diplomat or spy or some sort of aircraft into the space your ground units can't get to. Then move the ground unit on top of the first unit.

Remember, diplos, spys and the like don't have the same ZOC restrictions as other units. It's a handy way to get past entrenched enemy units or approach cities.

I have never tried doing that before...I usually just take over one of their cities and then use their ready made rail network to buy all their cities :)

Wait for the music to start, relax, and let youself go.
