How do I rush build?

I have gone through the manul a couple times but cant find anything about it.
I have looked at the city screen pretty close and can only seem to cancel what is currently building, not rush it to completion.

Can this even be done?

If you have universal suffrage, it'll be in the bottom righthand corner with a bunch of other little icons.

There's a small panel to the right hand side at the bottom of the city screen which has the "avoid growth", "emphasize food" and similar controls for the city governor. If you are using the slavery or universal sufferage civics, then a rush using population or rush using gold button will also be there. You have to actually have enough gold or population to complete the current project or the button will be greyed out.

The other way of rushing is the chop/slash method: cut down forests. This can be very effective, especially early in the game, when you want to get (for example) granaries and forges running early in a new city. Even later on, chopping several forests simultaneously can push through a relatively high level building or a wonder you fear somebody else is also erecting.

Ahh, I did not know I had to have a specific goverment type in place to do this. Thanks.

I was getting absolutly mobed bt two other leaders and NEEDED West Point RIGHT NOW to help my troops hold them back.

You could also use Great Engineers.
