How do you avoid being assasinated?

That does however mean that he will lose the ability to cast Peace.

To be honest with ya I have never used the Peace spell cause it would kill him anyway. I tend to use him to force peace, especially on elves they taste great when grilled to perfection.

Funny you should mention that, considering Corindale's Pedia entry.
Anyways, the trouble with turning Corindale into a lich, ignoring the peace spell, is that you lose the lich slot. Instead of having 7 9 archmages (3 4 liches, 3 4 archmages, and Corindale) you get 8 (3 4 liches, 3 4 archmages, no Corindale).

EDIT: Corrected numbers. When they're raised, I suppose it matters less if you don't have an extra one. But it's still nice to have, IMHO.

In 0.31 it is changed to 4 Archmages, and liches don't free up any additional slots, they just make the caster stronger.

Are you sure? I tend to more war like Hippus games few mages (thats why the national limit dont bother me). But I do remember a sidar game where I turned my arch mages into liches and promoted mages to arch mages and shades (cause they still keep their spell casting). Dunno I do have to still use my fingers and toes to count to twenty (dont ask how I get to 21) :mischief:

Liches and Archmagi are both national units, each with a limit of 4. Therefore, you would have 9 casters of level 3 arcane spells if you keep Corlindale. However, if you Lich Corlindale, that gives you only 8 (4 Archmagi, 3 Liches, 1 Lich formerly known as Corlindale).

Shades are supposed to be made into national units to avoid the infinite-archmage exploit as Sidar. However, they could still potentially have 12 level 3 arcane casters not including religious heroes. It'd be kind of stupid to take up your fourth Shade slot with an archmage though, since that would keep you from farming super-specialists.

Thing is, you can get Corlindale without strength of will, so when you convert him into a lich, you really don't loose much as the whole point of Corlindale is that he is an archmage available earlier in an entirely different tech tree. Once you have 4 liches and 4 archmages, the additional Corlindale slot wont matter anyway because:
a) the marginal return of the extra archmage as compared to the 8 already present is quite low
b) at that point you probably won the game anyway
c) Corlindale comes with twincast (Hero), so promoting him to a lich and getting him earlier in another tech tree is quite the advantage in and of itself.

On another note, the Elohim Devout comes with Life I and can upgrade into priests. Hence, Elohim high priests (and as elohim you should have high priests) will have resurrect by default. This means assassination is not a problem for you; furthermore, it actually makes corlindale's sacrifice ability quite useful because you can repeatedly use it to protect yourself. At high priests, The Elohim are all but invulnerable if they have ready access to mana nodes due to Life III Priests+Corlindale.

Mild Theoretical Exploit: If you have tier 3 priests, and you convert corlindale into a twincasting lich, it might be possible to get another 'Corlindale" via life III. Actually, that's a major exploit, if it works....

1. scout/hawk alot. thats necessary
2. Never use him in you main stack when you engaging enemy territory. In other cases should be np.
3. Worst ur enemy is sidar, since their assasins are invisible. Be careful with those and never move into unhawked territory. + if you use empy priests that helps too.

If you play carefully all should be ok, just encounter asssins coming to ur hero b4 they hit him.

Never go to the theatre, or ride in a convertible between a grassy knoll and a book depository with the top down.
