How do you stop spawning Great Prophets?

Am I missing something here?? I want to save faith for a Great Scientist but I keep spawning Great Prophets... I want to save faith points for the Great Scientist!! I've already founded 4 Great Prophets and am on around turn 110!!

uh no you can't turn off great prophet spawning before Industrial Era. Prophets will spawn when you reach the faith threshold. You could always make holy sites for more faiths which mean an easier time buying other great people later.

Did you already max out rationalism? If you're capable of spawning it, you just click on religion on the top and go down where it says automatic faith purchase, change it to remind me later or great scientist.

So how do I use Faith to purchase non-religion units (other than Holy Warriors belief)? Do I need a specific policy or tech before I am able to purchase other types of GP?

You need to open up one of the four lower (commerce, freedom, rationalism, order) social policy trees.. then they will appear in the "purchase" menu for cities.

Doesn't Commerce/Patronage open at the same era? So why would I be able to unlock it at Commerce and not Patronage? Is that just to buff Commerce and make it a more viable tree?

You need to open up one of the four lower (commerce, freedom, rationalism, order) social policy trees.. then they will appear in the "purchase" menu for cities.

Lower five. Commerce unlocks Great Merchants. And you don't need to complete the tree, just enter it.

This ability starts at the Industrial era, when automatic purchasing of Great Prophets stops. The threshold for Great Prophets, if you keep spawning them, is likely to be higher than for your first alternative great person. You can set automatic faith purchases in the religion overview screen to automatically purchase any particular item you have access to, when you have accumulated the required amount of faith. So if you set it to automatically purchase Great Scientists, it will do so as soon as you have enough faith.
