Besides as pillagers and harrassment, I can't think of a real good role for these units. I like the Zulu as a civ, Shaka has great traits and the Ikandi (spelling?) is one of the better UBs IMO, but I really don't think I make the most out of the UU and I've yet to read anything that really talks about their power. Any Impi lovers want to clue me in?

Beeing agreesive they start with combat I, so you can give class specific promos at level 1. So they can get cover right out of the Barracks - eerm Ikh-thingies. Gives them high enought odds against Archers and 2 moves+mobility makes for a really fast rush: You can often declare and attack at the same turn, not giving your enemy time to reinforce.

Later when axes come up the Impis are still good enought to harass weakly protecte cites on the outskirts of AI empires (the ai will often only put archers there).

Also great for all kind of ambushes like worker stelaing, or catching settler parties...

Also great for medic units.

D'oh! How did I think of the medic thing! They must make the best medics in the game! Thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate it and still would like to see more :D Has anyone written anything on Impis/The Zulu? I'd like to read it if they have.

Sweet! I'd like to see it, it sounds interesting. I can see a lot of potential for Impi rushes, I just don't know if I'm smart enough to figure it out :p

Playing Shaka does not need smart... Just go out there and bash some heads :D

Shaka makes a good pet. But be sure that you can win the game before you got out of bones to throw him :D

Seriously, IMHO Shaka AI is the one that uses the LH streghts to the fullest
