How do you view history?

Boring. Every event a special case. It would be like Dungeons and Dragons.

Hmm, if we had to roll D20 to determine the outcomes of wars and conflicts, I would say that history would be far more interesting.

But then the losers would complain even more.

History is all the stuff that happened before now

History ...... it really depends on why you need a piece of history for.

For example ......

'Functional' history:

1. It must have analytical utility. To put it simply: 'We have screwed up in the past. Why and how the hell that happened? Lessons to be learned, so we do not get caught with our pants down again? What improvements can we use?'

2. Its framework must be based on patterns and trends.

3. It must approach past events with respect to their contemporaries. For example, it is silly to write about Genghis Khan from the perspective of the 20th century norms and morality, unless his Mongol military was equipped with tanks, was staffed by officers with radios, and was manned by soldiers who grew up with modern conveniences.

4. It must discern the difference between the form and the function. For example, it is not enough to write about a prominent emperor. Was he not much more than a 'human stamp' or had the final authority?

I know that pretty well.

I wonder what history would be like if mistakes were never repeated.

Someone has to make a mistake so others will exploit them.

History just changes who that someone who makes the mistakes is.

I view it like a game of pool :)

The universe was created and the balls have been rolling ever since lol chain reaction, it's all traced back to a single event and is all pre-determined.

I then think of dimensions and time, and think it's different.

In that respect I'd say, I think of it like well we don't really have words in our language to describe it and it's kinda hard to fathom so I'll leave you to your devices.

I will say this, everything is connected, space, time, you, a tree, the cat, a blade of grass, energy, and at the same time, everything is completely separate and isolated.

Wrap your head around that, Ha!

I'm sure some of you academics will make some dumb comment about what I said and all I have to say is.

Regurgitating someone 'elses' knowledge is not intelligence, you can read all the books and theories you like but reading is not intelligence it simply means you have a good memory.

There is a difference between education and intelligence or wisdom.

True, but that hardly invalidates education. An intelligent man who is never educated knows very little, regardless of his innate abilities. He will not be able to exercise his intelligence properly, and it will go to waste.

The point of the academic system isn't exactly to be original in every aspect anyway. It's highly preferable for the individual to be, but the system is designed so that the collegial group then tests your ideas or results to destruction. If they can't take the strain, go back and redo. It's a form of quality and durability control through collective action by a bunch of individualists.
