How does the "ressourse seed" thing work?

In the map editor there is this option but I don't get how it works exactly...

Me neither. I guess there is a mathematical formula controlled by this variable. But I do know the results that come from it. All numbers other than one patterns the "special" ressource squares in a certain way (sparce or rich) -so you can set up a "realistic" ressource pattern for your world.

A value of 1 = randomly placed ressorces every time you use that map.
 
Well anybody that knows more......?
