How does your boss react when you ask for vacation?

As long as we schedule long enough in advance there is never any problem getting the days off. We supposedly have the same policy as Bamspeedy where we need to have a certain number of people in the office, but I'm not aware of a single occasion where someone was denied vacation days because of that. The only problem this year is that one client scheduled a huge deadline for the week that I had planned off for months. I tried to get as much design and production work done before I left but the team assigned to cover for me had a hell of a time getting it all finished. I can't stand vacations where you have to call the office every day (that week I called in twice - still 2 times too many for a vacation). I took my team out for drinks and hotwings to thank them for working overtime while I relaxed at a cabin on the lake.

My company shuts down for 2 weeks over the summer and 1 week around christmas. I generally cannot work during these periods.

The kicker is I only get 2 weeks vacation a year. That means 1 of these 3 weeks is "unpaid leave time" :P

I usually try to find a way to work at least 1 of these weeks so I don't lose a weeks pay and maybe have a week to do as I please

So to the point of the thread, I don't really ask for any time off. It's more like "You better fill out a vacation request form for the shutdown if you want to get paid for it" :)

I just fill out my vacation request form months in advance and my boss approves it. Sadly i only get 2weeks vacation, of which a week is sucked away from me for shutdown during the summer.(or i can have it unpaid  )
