How is Hyborem entering creation?

In the game, we can "summon" Basium with the Mercurian Gate. I suppose it is a gate that can leads him from hell to Erebus. But with Hyborem, I have trouble "seeing" how he enters Erebus. One research the Infernal Pact and Hyborem appears. Well, great but... what is the Infernal Pact? How is it done? Is Hyborem just appearing from nowhere?

The reason behind this question is that I want to know if there is a lore-related reason that makes Hyborem appear anywhere possible on the map when summoned and why he needs a tech while Basium needs a wonder.

The Infernal Pact would probably be better described as a Ritual, even though technically implemented as a tech in the game (I may change that in my version). As the name implies, it involves making a pact with demons.

In the Wages of Sin Scenario, we see that Os-Gabella's ritualists performed a ritual that not only summoned Hyborem and his followers, but bound them to Creation so he could not just give up and go home before destroying the world for her. It involved a rearrangement of the planes so as to allow passage from hell to Erebus for Hyborem and his followers and to merge it enough to allow hell terrain.

Abnoba oversaw the chanting of the ritualists. Not a word was misspoke. They had had the importance of this ritual made extremely clear. He turned to his queen, seated in her throne gazing impassively at the magic circle in the dim candle light.

"I cannot say that this will grant you what you seek, milady."

"No, likely it will not. Hyborem's powers are great indeed, but even he lacks the power to rescind a blessing given by the twenty-one in concert. It seems I am destined to see the end of this world."

"If anything would bring the apocalypse upon our world, it would be this ritual. Agares followers will be bound to this world..." She trailed off as a sudden shaking almost knocked her to her feet. "Milady! Are we besieged?"

"Abnoba... foolish child, what did you expect the rearrangement of the universe to feel like? Although doubtless the Bannor camp at our borders would take this as provocation and besiege us, and it would be to our advantage to let them face the Infernals and rip this land asunder... our spies tell us that they shall soon have to return home and face a worse surprise in the halls of Torolerial. So we must find some other target for our new patron Hyborem."

The Ashen Veil priestess smiled. "The north."

Os-Gabella beckoned. From the shadows came a Succubus. "If Hyborem has done his part from Hell, his forces should be emerging near Tempus Mor. The civil war of the Elven states should distract them enough for Hyborem to gain ground." The Succubus nodded and left the hall.

"And we?"

Os-Gabella smiled. "As we have ever done. Bring discord and strife until this world is unfit for the great experiment it was built for.

What could be worse than hell? The domain of a fallen god, whispers of it are found in every religion.

"The wicked shall face their eternal punishment in hell," says the Confessor.

"It's fires burn hotter than any forge, and the foolish burn away like fool's gold," the Stonewarden warns.

"The hottest days of summer do not compare," intones the Priests of Leaves, "and there is no rebirth for those defilers exiled there."

The Cultists babble, "In the fire or in the void, your masters cannot speak to you, nor you to them; shun the realm of the fallen sun, and falter not in your labors for your lords, or you shall be so banished!"

And in the rituals of the Ashen Veil lie these words: "From the fires of the pit, come our secrets, but we acknowledge we are supplicants, and offer the price you seek. We come to bargain, not command, oh Lords of the darkness and eternal fires. For this presumption, take not our souls, take those of our foes."

But the truth is much worse. Hell is an attack on every aspect of the souls that dwell within it. An excruciating forge built to transform the weak and broken into physical manifestations of Agares' hate. In life a man may consider an act unthinkable, but through the slow manipulations of hell that act will become acceptable and then enjoyable. Many spend eternity in this slow grind, hating those above them and crushing those below them.

Hyborem was not so easily satisfied, he thirsted for new challenges. With the covert assistance of Agares, the walls of creation were weakened imperceptibly by rituals learned by the Ashen Veil. Hell, always existing alongside the infinite plane where mortals dwelt, was given brief, tortured access. Hyborem took his servants and set out at once.

They are forced to carve a city from the dirt with their own claws when this reality refuses to submit to their will. But that will is strengthened by Hyborem's demonic desires, and his underlings abject fear of him. Hot tempered and Impatient, he is nonetheless cunning and willing to watch the kingdoms of men, even to learn from them how to operate in this realm, until his goals are fulfilled and he can bring as many mortals into hell to torment for eternity.

Both of those entries were written by NK, I still love reading them, he did a great job.

I have always seen demon summoning as inspired by medieval stories like Faust. Christianity seems to be the prime inspiration for hyborem and his fellow demons.
