I usually try to stop after reaching certain objectives (conquering something, constructing a wonder). The problem is there are always new objectives afterwards so that doesn't really do the trick. So it is more often the 'too late panic' method of stopping. (about 4 or 5 hours = normal for me)

Wow, and I thought I was a hardcore civfanatic with my 2-3 hours on weekends, some of you guys used to get 14 hours a day? That's just crazy. How do you do that? I mean, physically, how do you keep in your chair for 14 hours at a time? That's insane.

Chair? What's that? I got this thing growing out of my back that I rest on when not walking!

Sure seems that way, sometimes.

Hi I'm new to this forum, but not to the game. I play a lot, and have been playing Civ III for about 2 years now. I ration my game time otherwise, all those things you all mentioned would happen to me.

Weekdays, I often start at lunch (over lunch) and play till it's time to make dinner... that is, if nothing else is on the schedule. Weekends are sporadic. But I am trying to limit myself to less than 30 hours a week... so I have a life.

Welcome to the forum!!

WEll, now my parents aren't letting me play nearly as much, because of school, my lack of sleep, lack of food, the fact that I used to be able to speak spanish pretty well until I got civ(it's not my fault! civ isn't in spanish), and the fact that I'm starting to confuse civ with real life (I'm actually doing the things on teh "1000 things that you play civ to much" (can't rember teh name)).

I only play one turn, i swear, only one more turn.

@digitalgoodtime: you are not alone, i tell you, the cow can move if she wants....Hehe hahaha heeee i've seen it last night, i swear... hehehaha.

I don't play civ very much, prolly 1-3h max, then it just gets boring for me...
Its completely different with cs(Counter-Strike) I sometimes get so carried away killing those dam team-flashing nuubs, that I may forget to eat or even to go to the bathroom(well nothing imbrassing has ever happened but it has been very close to happening :p ) but this usually happens when a map has no time limit...

I like to play for between 4-8 hours at a time depending on distractions. However I must play very slowly as someone above said a game on a huge map with 8 civs takes 10-12 hours. I am currently on a large map and the game has lasted 72 hours with maybe another 10-15 to go (before I crush the Russians and Americans once and for all). :D

My record on any game in a single stretch was 76 hours on Championship Manager. Scary, really.

Hm, my game limiter is folding laundry. Play a turn. Pair of socks. Play a turn. Shirt. Play a turn. . .

Laundry for three people = about 2+ hours in the middle ages, a lot less in AA. By the industrial/modern it becomes several pieces per turn.

Incidentally, this is why I only play turn based games.

Last night about 12:15am I decided to knock out a few turns of my emperor
game as Celts :D , next when I looked at the clock it was 3:00am  . I
can hardly keep my eyes open today :crazyeye:  .

I'm a serious addict; I play until I crash. My ex-wife once tried to lure me away from the computer by sitting on my lap, wearing a little nightie. I remember being annoyed because she was blocking the screen.

I can usually play for several hours straight, but my time is pretty much dictated by the boss (parents). During the summer I get far more time in than during school. I imagine this school year I'll get 3 hours a night in.
Sometimes I stop earlier, because of headache, incredible frustration(throwing mousepad at monitor), or tiredness. In all games I have ever played, I have always reached the modern age at 11:00 or so at night, so that's usually when I stop playing Civ and do something else.

 :rotfl: :p "ex-wife" --- we know how she became the "ex" :D

i think i over do everything i do. I play civilization 3 in surges, i may not play for weeks at a time only to see something on the history channel that really get my blood pumping and then i just whip out my civ and play non stop until i finish that game. Especially now that school's out i can do that without suffering much consequences.

For me, I take breaks once in a while, but there was this one game that took me 200 hrs. litterally because I was playing huge map, all civs.
